$44,036 - $61,636

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification for Speech Language Pathologist:
  • Master's Degree in Speech/Language Disorders
  • Type E endorsement from the Colorado Department of Education or working towards a Master's Degree under Temporary Teacher Eligibility, to be complete in the time allotted by CDE.
Education/Certification for Speech Language Pathologist Assistant :
  • A bachelor's degree in speech communications, speech language/pathology, or communication disorder/speech sciences OR a bachelor's degree (in any major) plus 24 semester hours in speech language hearing sciences from regionally accredited college/university
  • Certificate of completion of an approved speech-language pathology assistant program which includes
    • a minimum 100-clock hour school-based practicum under the supervision of an ASHA-certified, CDE-licensed school speech-language pathologist
Experience:
  1. Clinical experience preferred
Additional Expectations (depending on license):
  1. To evaluate or screen previously enrolled speech/language cases, pupils enrolled in school for the first time and referrals.
  2. To screen or assist in screening for possible hearing disabilities for all children in designated grades enrolled in schools where assistance is requested or adequate nursing service is not available.
  3. To secure written parental permission for every child needing a speech/language assessment. The speech and language will follow the process and staffing procedures as established by the Elizabeth School District and CDE.
  4. To carry out those assessments procedures necessary to arrive at a specific speech disability diagnosis and formulation of remediation and development objectives.
  5. To arrange, along with the principal, a full staffing for those children who have a speech/language disability that is effecting them educationally.
  6. To provide appropriate direct speech/language therapy services to those children determined to be in need of services.
  7. To consult with both regular and special education teachers on a regular basis, or as needed, when necessary to foster more positive speech/language patterns in a particular child.
  8. To complete all necessary record keeping requirements of Elizabeth School District to include progress monitoring.
  9. To carry out additional duties, as seen fit by the Elizabeth School District administration.
    1. Childfind - To assess 0-3 population, as needed
    2. Preschool - To screen and/or assess 3-5 year olds referred by various agencies and or general population.
    3. Possible member of Alternative Augmentative Communication Team
JOB GOAL:
To provide an effective instructional program for identified students with a speech language disability. He/she shall carry out these functions according to the teacher's section of the Elizabeth School District Handbook.

The Director of Special Education.
