AVID TUTOR - ELECTIVE
2 Positions open to support students.

SUMMARY
Under the direction of the AVID elective teacher, the tutor will use writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) methodologies to clarify subject matter in academic courses and to facilitate students' growth as independent learners. Tutors provide an important bridge between the experience of the students and the expectations of the AVID teacher.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Some college course work
  3. Experience with children of the age to be taught

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of:
  1. Classroom Management
  1. Instructional delivery methods
  2. Student support services
  3. Data collection and management
  4. Student safety policies and procedures
  5. Work in a team environment with teachers and other stakeholders

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: (May not include all duties performed):
  1. Serve as role model/mentor to AVID students.
  2. Complete tutor training.
  3. Facilitate the tutorial learning process and implement AVID methodologies.
  4. Assist students in maintaining their AVID binders (with calendar, assignment sheets, Tutorial Request Form (TRF) and daily Cornell notes from academic classes).
  5. Actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials.
  6. Participate in AVID field trips and motivational activities (when possible).
  7. Become familiar with the specific routines and expectations of the AVID teacher's classroom.
  8. Provides academic support for students in rigorous courses.
  9. Encourages students to enroll in a four-year college or university after high school graduation.
  10. Assist students in the successful completion of college eligibility requirements and in becoming college-ready.
  11. Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  12. Adhere to district/school policies and procedures.
  13. Other duties as necessary to the position
