School Lunch Consultant
Food and Nutrition Services
Thomas E. Carroll Nutrition Center
Salary: $74,856 (35 hours per week)

Supervises staff in the operation of breakfast, lunch, snack, supper and special meals in assigned schools. Supervises and oversees all areas of food preparation and service. Maintains accurate records and reports as required.

Responsibilities:
  1. Adherence to all regulations of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act and State of Connecticut Healthy Food Certification Legislation.
  2. Implementation of departmental policies as set by the Director and the Bridgeport Board of Education.
  3. Planning, creating, designing and printing monthly menus.
  4. Accurate and proper reporting and recording systems by cafeteria personnel in schools.
  5. Auditing of software applications in all schools.
  6. Instructing cafeteria personnel in health, safety, sanitary practices, serving procedures and the use of equipment.
  7. Inventories in all assigned schools.
  8. Coordinating cafeteria operations between schools and the Department Central Office.
  9. Good working relationships with cafeteria personnel, Board of Education personnel and Nutrition Department supervisory staff.
  10. Special projects as assigned.
  11. Instructing and directing staff on customer relations and proper food presentation.
  12. Reviewing foodservice operations to ensure compliance with program regulations.
  13. Reviewing and auditing the ordering of food and non- food items and inventory control.
  14. Recommending staff and equipment purchases.
  15. Tracking sales and meal counts.
  16. Instructing staff on use of new products and service of enhanced meals.
  17. Coordinating equipment repairs and replacements.

Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours/credits in the area of:
    1. Food & Nutrition
    2. Dietetics
    3. Business Management
    4. Hotel & Restaurant Administration
    5. Home Economics
  2. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in school meal programs.
  3. State of Connecticut Food Handler Certification.
  4. Strong Organizational skills.
  5. Ability to motivate and lead.
  6. Demonstrate initiative.
  7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Demonstrated computer skills in but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  10. Experience with MUNIS and Point of Sale software programs preferred.
