TITLE: Custodian, Substitute

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of basic math functions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education Policies.
  • REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager and Building Principals

    JOB GOAL: To help clean and maintain the physical school properties, in order to provide a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and the community.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Cleans and monitors designated spaces and equipment in the building, including sweeping, dusting, moping, vacuuming, and waxing and rubbish removal.
  • Assists in the upkeep of seasonal grounds work, such as snow and ice removal, leaves and other debris.
  • Unlocks and locks premises, secures windows and activates and deactivates the alarm systems.
  • Cleans and maintains custodial equipment daily after each use.
  • Takes monthly fuel readings and forwards results to the Business Office when applicable.
  • Restocks consumable items and provides an inventory of supplies to the lead custodian at the high school, middle school and the principals of the elementary schools.
  • Helps in unloading of freight, checks and distributes freight to respective areas.
  • Works as a team with all custodians in thoroughly cleaning and maintaining buildings during school breaks and in the summer.
  • Collects Material Safety Data Sheets for all cleaning products and submits them to the Chief of Operations.
  • Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders.
  • The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks.
  • The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as, tables, bleachers, and/or cleaning equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics describe here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may be required to work on ladders, scaffolding, and bucket lifter equipment or in confined spaces. The employee may occasionally work with chemicals. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    TERMS OF EMLOYMENT: Salary and work year established by Board of Education and the custodians' bargaining unit

    SALARY: $15.00/hour

    EVALUATION: Annually by Facilities Manager
