Supervises: N/A
Job Goal: To serve as a liaison person between home, school and community. The School
Social Worker contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring
Environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social
development of children and the influences of family, community and cultural
differences on student success. He/she shall also implement effective intervention
strategies.
Performance Responsibilities:

differences on student success. He/she shall also implement effective intervention
strategies.
Performance Responsibilities:
The School Social Worker will perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee:
- To empower students, families and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources to fully develop each student's potential
- Counsel with parents toward improving home situations whereby more favorable conditions will be attained with regard to school work, behavior, attendance and interest; maintain their confidentiality
- To provide individual and group counseling to students and their families
- Provide social case management for students and families
- Provide crisis intervention services
- Serve as liaison with community agencies and assist in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians and community leaders
- Conduct home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues
- Assist a pupil directly toward adjustment to school (after consultation with the school counselor and/or psychologist)
- Counsel individual students to correct those personal, social or emotional mal-adjustments related to their educational and social progress
- Participate as a member of the RtI Team and other school-based teams to develop interventions that promote a student's academic success
- Keep sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and/or outside agencies
- Help students and parents complete the Confidential Needs Identification (DDP-4) These forms provide information to OPWDD, which helps identify services needed for persons with developmental disabilities
- Provide staff consultation and Professional Development on behavioral, emotional and environmental issues affecting student participation in the educational process
- Attend meetings and professional development activities as required
- Other responsibilities as assigned by building level administration and/or Superintendent's designee
Requirements:
- NYS Certification - School Social Worker
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED TEACH; drug testing; current TB test; current physical (less than one year old) - all completed upon being hired for employment
