QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated experience in the custodial industry or ability to be trained as evaluated by the Assistant Director of Facilities Management.
  2. Proven ability to communicate with others orally and in writing.
  3. Ability to operate electronic communication systems required to conduct the business of the department.
  4. Knowledge of the controls and filter maintenance for mechanical systems.
  5. Knowledge of housekeeping practices, supplies, materials and ability to perform custodial duties.
  6. High school diploma or GED
  7. Physical requirements: Bending, lifting up to 70 lbs., climbing, continuous standing while working. May be exposed to dust, dirt and chemicals. Work is both indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation and blood borne pathogens. Able to don and work using PPE required by OSHA in the performance of custodial tasks.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Building Administrator

SUPERVISES: n/a

JOB GOALS: Under the co-supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Building Administrator and the direction of Head Custodian, perform custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection and preservation of assigned buildings, contents, and immediate grounds, and the safety of building occupants. Also perform department approved non-cleaning service duties under the direction of the head custodian in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain an environment in the assigned workplace safe and conducive to student learning according to custodial and school schedules.
  2. Request and stock supplies according to school schedules as assigned by head custodian.
  3. Assure that cleanliness in the school is adequate
  4. Assure that facility utilities are operating correctly. (Report major problems to head custodian, repair technician or Facilities Management supervisor)
  5. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft or pilferage.
  6. Be responsive to needs of building administrator including arrangements for lunch, evening activities, weekend activities and meetings, etc.
  7. Assist in the training of co-workers and substitutes assigned to the school.
  8. Complete as many minor repair jobs as materials, tools and time permit.
  9. Develop and maintain computer skills for electronic software programs used to operate and support the department.
  10. Perform the daily work responsibilities assigned and approved for the position.
  11. Perform work and use equipment including but not limited to: cleaning agents, various floor care machines, vacuums, hand tools, yard equipment, ladders, snow removal machines, scaffolding, and furniture and equipment dollies.
  12. Other duties as assigned.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 260 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
