Middle School Learning Coordinator

The Middle School Learning Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the MS Principal and the MS Associate Principal, is responsible for the curricular and instructional coordination of the pedagogical approach adopted by the Middle School. The MS Learning Coordinator collaborates with the Middle School Leadership Team to ensure that the overall operations of the Middle School optimize student learning, and particularly in regards to consistent and effective curriculum delivery to Middle school students. This individual collaborates with the Principal, Associate Principal, Office of Learning, other Learning Coordinators, Student Support Services and Coaches.

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning

Education and Experience

Requirements:
  • At least two years' teaching experience
  • Teaching degree and/or qualifications
  • A role in educational leadership

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years or more of international middle classroom teaching experience
  • Possesses or working towards a Master's degree in curriculum or related field
  • Experience in curriculum development

Essential Duties

Curriculum
  • Work with the Educational Leadership Team on all matters relating to the development and implementation of the written (Standards and Benchmarks, Scope and Sequence documents, Planners and Curriculum maps), taught and assessed curriculum
  • Promote and support the school Mission and Core Values
  • Positively supporting school change as outlined in the Learning at AAS model, the Strategic Priorities and as aligned with our Vision
  • Collaborate with the MS Leadership Team to share pedagogical expertise and to ensure the smooth delivery of the divisional curriculum
  • Ensure the teaching staff receive and are familiar with all AAS MS relevant curriculum documents, policies, and practices
  • Work with the faculty leaders, coaches, librarians, and all MS educators to encourage and ensure appropriate, meaningful, and manageable collaboration across the curriculum within the division
  • Attend MS curriculum meetings, common planning times, and other meetings as required and directed by the Middle School Leadership
  • Liaise with the other divisions to ensure vertical curriculum articulation
  • Provide opportunities for educating parents on the AAS curriculum

Professional Development (PD)
  • Planning staff development and training with the MS Leadership Team, Educational Leadership Team, Schoolwide Learning, and Human Resources
  • Support newly hired educators as a mentor to understand and implement the AAS curriculum
  • Provide a range of services in order to support implementation of the curriculum
  • Ensure staff are made aware of professional development (PD) opportunities (onsite and off-site), in conjunction with the MS Leadership, Office of Learning and Human Resources

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education / specialty area,
