Job Description

The School Nurse Aide will serve scholars alongside our School Nurse and Operations Team. This position will report to the school nurse. This individual will be responsible for working with students, families, and staff who have been exposed to or who develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Dialogue with contacts will be guided by standard protocols to obtain any symptom history and other relevant health information, provide instructions for self-quarantine, and make appropriate referrals to testing, clinical services, and other essential support services. This position will require prioritization, prompt action, and attention to detail in documentation and data management.

Responsibilities:
  • Initiate prompt communication with people exposed to COVID-19 (close contacts) through phone calls, email, and other communication platforms as necessary.
  • Draft communications as needed for pertinent health concerns applicable to the school community
  • Communicate with close contacts and their families, following a script or guidance to ensure effective next steps are taken in line with Uncommon Schools and Massachusetts policies.
  • Support with daily health screening (HealthPass) for students, and communicate with families as needed.
  • Support nurses with entering data regarding COVID tests administered at campus.
  • Support nurses with data entry regarding student physicals, immunizations, and other medical paperwork.
  • Ensure smooth logistics during weekly COVID pool testing by collecting students from classrooms, bringing them to testing location, and ensuring all pool testing systems run according to plan.
  • As needed, support with administering COVID rapid tests to students
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Operations team to efficiently complete contact notification and monitoring assignments, which includes gathering seating charts, determining close contacts, etc.
  • Employ dynamic communication and interpersonal skills, cultural competency/sensitivity, tactful language, and empathetic interviewing skills to build rapport and maintain trust with patients of varied backgrounds.
  • Verify the contact's identity during initial communications and prior to disclosing confidential information.
  • Assure confidentiality and carry out efforts to locate and communicate with families or staff in a manner that preserves the confidentiality and privacy of all involved.
  • Maintain the security of confidential information

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with students and families, and comfortable making phone calls
  • Required: High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent
  • Required: Experience with data entry
  • Required: Available from 7:30am - 12:30pm each day
  • Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish

Additional Information

This position is available immediately. Hours are tentatively set to be Monday through Friday 7:30am - 12:30pm. The compensation will be $18/hour. If individuals are interested in applying but unavailable for the full time commitment, please reach out with your availability.
