PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist instructors in the KCPS Pre-K Head Start classroom and to provide extended learning activities for Pre-K children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Promote and support children's social, emotional and physical development consistent with the philosophy of the Office of Early Learning.

Work with Pre-K instructors to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out classroom and extended learning activities.

Complete required planning during designated planning time in coordination with classroom teaching staff.

Attend all assigned training and professional development opportunities.

Maintain a safe transition procedure when moving children from one area of the school to another.

Keep daily records of student attendance and maintain daily attendance logs for all classroom volunteers.

Report all staffing and classroom concerns or any unsafe conditions to supervisor or classroom teaching staff immediately.

Utilize Conscious Discipline classroom management techniques during interactions with

children.

Collaborate and assist teachers to provide classroom instruction and learning activities based on the Project Construct curriculum framework.

Maintain a healthy, safe and welcoming Pre-K classroom environment.

Monitor the arrival and departure of students in accordance with child care licensing

requirements.

Adhere to all state child care licensing regulations, federal Head Start performance standards and MOA accreditation practices.

Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a high school diploma and have previous experience with and/or training for working with children in a learning environment.

Willingness to work with children ages three and four years old and understanding the

demands of the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and/or a two or four year

undergraduate degree.

Willing to enroll in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects/children of at least forty pounds; spend extended time out of doors in a variety of weather conditions; visual ability requires mono and color vision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 10 months. 5 hours per day/5 days per week. Position cannot be coordinated with other full-time KCPS employment.
