1hr/day AAII position - AAII salay range $23.01-$27.05

Criteria for Initial Placement on the Schedule per Collective Bargaining Agreement: Experience credit for regular employees shall only be allowed for prior experience in a K-12 educational unit to the extent required by RCW 28A.400.300 as amended.

Due to the current COVID situation, all clerical testing has been suspended for KAEOP applicants. Level testing will now only be done after the initial interviews for the finalists only. This means all applicants will be screened for interviews without passing the clerical testing for the position. Once interviewed, if you are a finalist, you will required to pass the clerical test for the position you are being considered for.

Meridian Middle School is a culturally diverse school of 600 students located on the east hill of Kent, WA, 18 miles southeast of Seattle. In addition to the general curriculum we offer a variety of elective and special education programs. Our school has a technologically literate staff with a major focus on technology integration.? Meridian is a Oneto-One school with each student and teacher and para are issued a district laptop. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KAEOP bargaining unit.

SSA ASSIGNMENT: The purpose of this position is to perform basic support tasks to assist with daily office operations and to oversee students in various locations of the school or to provide non-instructional support to certificated staff and carry out various other mail related tasks. The essential job duties include the following:
  1. Provides secretarial support, including typing and/or word processing, graphics, data entry, file maintenance, materials organization and duplication, information recording, and records control.
  2. Acts as office receptionist, answer telephones and greets visitors; may open, sort, and screen incoming mail.
  3. Assists in preparation of teachers materials, including collating, sorting, and stapling; assists with materials distribution.
  4. Assists with the production/duplication of staff materials, including routine use and maintenance of copier equipment (i.e., toner supply, paper supply, routine maintenance checks); may use laminator equipment and ditto or similar machines; produces transparencies; maintains related equipment/production records.
  5. Assists with the accounting and reporting of school records as directed including, but not limited to, student records, financial records, and general school records.
  6. In elementary positions, performs supervision of playground during recess and other scheduled student activities as directed.
  7. Monitors student behavior and takes appropriate actions; maintains related records; may monitor student behavior at crosswalks, bus loading, or in a lunchroom.
  8. Assists with the daily attendance reporting system, including home-school absence communications as directed.
  9. Assists with the production and/or distribution of school correspondence, such as building calendars and handbooks; school, district, and community newsletter information; and general public relations information.
  10. Provides for a friendly, open, and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and school reception area.
  11. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
  12. Provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
  13. Maintains adequate supplies for office operations; conducts inventory as required or necessary.
  14. Supervises student teacher assistants.
HEALTH TECH ASSIGNMENT: The purpose of this position is to administer first aid to ill or injured students according to district guidelines; attend to ill or injured students and determine what course of action should be taken; maintain a log of all students utilizing health room services; dispense medications according to written district policy; assist with screening programs such as vision, dental, and scoliosis; maintain required student health records; complete accident reports (student or staff), check for head lice and determine re-entry to school; maintain confidentiality with regard to district-related records and matters and other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned. The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
  1. Provide health room services in accordance with established district procedures; administers first aid to ill or injured students when appropriate. Attend to ill or injured students and determine what course of action should be taken.
  2. Administers medication in accordance with district procedures and keeps accurate weekly counts of medication.
  3. Updates and maintains student health records using computerized applications, such as an automated student information system as well as word processing and spreadsheet applications; maintains hard copy files, as needed.
  4. Types correspondence and processes a variety of forms, including immunization and out of compliance forms.
  5. Makes appropriate emergency communications, including follow-up reports; documents health room activities on Health Room Registry, maintains student health records; hearing, vision, scoliosis and lice checks of students.
  6. Maintains log of all students utilizing health room services; dispense medications according to written district policy
  7. Assists with screening programs such as vision, dental, and scoliosis;
  8. Maintains confidentiality with regard to district-related records and matters and other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
  9. Provides clerical support, including typing and/or word processing, graphics, data entry, file maintenance, materials organization and duplication, ordering supplies, health information recording, and records control.
  10. Provides for a friendly, open, and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and school reception area.
  11. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
  12. Provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
  13. Serves as member of the building support team; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma/GED or equivalent educational experience; additional related training desirable; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
  2. Completion of Kent School District's clerical testing at the administrative assistant I (C) level, with a score of 70% or higher. Contact 253.373.7209 to schedule testing.
  3. Valid first aid, CPR card, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and knowledge of modern emergency health-care procedures required for school positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.
  2. Ability to operate an office computer; word processing skills desirable.
  3. Ability to operate modern office machines, including office copier, FAX, and calculator.
  4. Ability to maintain timely, accurate, and efficient record keeping, including preparation of reports from office records.
  5. Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes, and use of new equipment.
  6. Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
  7. Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the general public and ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.
  9. Customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  10. Ability to communicate in a second language.
  11. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics.
  12. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
  13.
