Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is seeking a Director - Human Resources to join our network team (as an immediate hire).

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is a high-performing, innovative public charter school in Newark NJ, serving students from Pre-K to 12th grade on multiple campuses across the city. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director - Human Resources is an integral member of the Human Resources & Talent team and drives key initiatives to make Great Oaks Legacy a great place to work by working with leadership to build a strong organizational culture.

Primary Responsibilities:

HR Administration and Policies:
  • Responsible for advancing a mission-aligned environment that supports effective collaboration among the school leaders, staff, and AmeriCorps fellows.
  • Develop relationships and build trust with key stakeholders throughout the organization, as well as with external partners
  • Provide consultation to leaders on employee relations issues
  • Provide training and consultation to staff and supervisors on employee relations and compliance issues (employee relations, sexual harassment, etc.)
  • Serve as liaison to employees with questions/concerns relating to school policies and procedures
  • Work with Associate Director of Data and Reporting to ensure accurate reporting of employee data.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local law and regulation
  • Develop and manage workplace protocols, complaint procedures, and policies governing employee grievances and separations; resolve employee relations matters


Talent Development Strategy:
  • Maintain and execute on-boarding and exit processes in partnership with other members of the HR & Talent team to create a values-aligned experience for our staff throughout the employment cycle
  • Streamline and execute the performance management process
  • Drive diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across our hiring and day-to-day practices

Benefits:
  • Oversee salary and benefits benchmarking to ensure GOLCS is providing comprehensive, competitive benefits.
  • Serve as a liaison to our third party benefits administrator and manage all aspects of benefits planning and coordination, including open enrollment, eligibility, and plan configuration/provisions
  • Review audits and reporting to ensure plan compliance and cost effectiveness.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • SHRM-CP preferred

Experience:
  • 3+ years of relevant HR experience required
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR practice; multi-state experience preferred
  • Experience working in a Charter School or non-profit environment preferred
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, interact with employees at every level and maintain sensitive information in a confidential and discreet manner.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook


May perform other duties related to human resources, recruiting, payroll, or other administration.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


The Director - Human Resources is a twelve-month employee with salary to be recommended by Executive Director and approved by the board.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree required; Minimum of 3-5 years of Human Resources experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  2. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines related to assigned work.
  3. Knowledge of employment law, principles, practices, and methods.
  4. Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of products, and ability to learn and use computer information systems adeptly.
  5. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
  7. Successfully completes required criminal history proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and/ or acceptable.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & EVALUATION

The Director of Human Resources is a full time, year-round (12-month) role and reports to the Chief People Officer, receiving semi-annual evaluations.
