Articulates and implements the mission and vision of Early College to the students, parents, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders. Recruits students likely to be successful based on identified criteria and who demonstrate an interest in attaining significant college course credits while completing the Alabama High School Diploma requirements. Implements best practices when developing the Early College experience. Monitors the progress of students and guides them for success. Reports to the school principal and works under the close direction of the Director of Post-Secondary Readiness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works collaboratively with school counselor(s) to ensure proper course progression to fulfill requirements for both Alabama High School graduation and Early College, and transitioning to post-secondary enrollment.
  • Work with the School's Counseling Department to ensure that a strong system of advisement is in place to support the Early College framework
  • Works collaboratively with high school records staff to ensure student transcripts accurately reflect college coursework.
  • Monitors course progression alignment and updates in accordance with Alabama Department of Education guidelines each semester and as updates are released.
  • Maintains knowledge and implements best practices related to dual enrollment, Early College, acceleration, Advanced Placement coursework, and student success.
  • Plans and implements all Early College initiatives including but not limited to Summer Bridge programming, standardized test prep, academic and social support, mentoring and other activities.
  • Organizes and implements processes for Early College recruitment, application, and enrollment.
  • Manage Early College budget by tracking expenses related to programming, transportation, tuition, books and materials.
  • Ensure all higher education partner/vendor invoices are submitted to accounts payable and satisfied in a timely manner.
  • Identify needed textbooks and other materials required for college coursework and order those materials in a timely manner.
  • Identify potential scholarship/grant-based funding sources to support Early College enrollment.
  • Work collaboratively with district and local scheduling team to ensure Early College students have access to appropriate courses and that college courses are embedded in students' academic day.
  • Assist school administration with Early College scheduling and staffing.
  • Work collaboratively with higher education partners and families to ensure students meet all enrollment requirements including appropriate immunizations and standardized testing requirements satisfied.
  • Coordinate transportation from the high school to the higher education partner site.
  • Coordinate activities of support personnel to ensure student safety on campus.
  • Maintain communication with parents through various mediums, host informational and educational parent workshops and meetings to support student success.
  • Create learning opportunities to support student success beyond cognitive expectations; "college knowledge"; social readiness and self-advocacy and other skills needed to support student success.
  • Support implementation of rigorous standards and teaching to support student academic readiness in high school courses.
  • Ensures students comply with BCS Code of Conduct and Higher Ed Partners policy regarding continuous enrollment and behavior expectations.
  • Participate in meetings related to Post Secondary Readiness, as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to school staff to ensure that the Early College framework is implemented and that the programs of study are followed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the academic progress of students Early College and facilitate with the appropriate staff and Higher Education partner resources to develop interventions.
  • Plan career opportunities for students such as guest speakers, field trips, job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, and other experiential opportunities in collaboration with school staff and Director of Post-Secondary Readiness.
  • Assist with monitoring students engaged in experiential learning opportunities.
  • Assist with the planning of and participating in vertical articulation activities with middle schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
