Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to assist in planning, budgeting, directing, supervising, maintaining and evaluating the district's facilities operation, renovation and maintenance operational plans, referendum and effectiveness. This is to include but not limited to district construction improvement projects, all phases of construction design and builds, construction budgeting, bidding and administration of design for ongoing referendum and district wide improvement activities. Supports both Operations and Maintenance Departments in a collaborative approach to ensure successful outcome of all facilities operation, maintenance, renovation and referendum projects. Supports and consults with key decision makers on financial, repairs, maintenance and construction staff, cost of operation, maintenance and projects and overall efficiency management strategy. Helps implementation and oversight of annual, building improvements fund and referendum budgets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordination, planning and execution of Operations and Maintenance initiatives and improvement activities within the school district including repair, maintenance and renovation of the school district facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating consultants, operations, construction and improvement activities, including capital planning, renovations and referendum projects.
  • Coordinate budget planning, implementation and execution for facilities operations, engineering and maintenance.
  • Research and recommend equipment, professional services supplies and materials expenditures.
  • Participate in planning, contract development and execution of operations, maintenance, facilities, construction and renovation projects as assigned including capital projects, renovations and referendum projects.
  • Assist in planning, management and execution of process improvement initiatives and projects which will improve operational efficiency and the organizational climate and culture and align the mission and vision of all departments with the mission and vision of the school district.
  • Obtain and maintain current knowledge of, or sources for, regulatory changes, environmental issues, technology, computerization and changes in educational philosophies for facilities operations, engineering and maintenance.
  • Assist in project delivery of operations, renovation, construction or delivery of projects including referendum and regulatory compliance initiatives and projects as assigned.
  • Valuing diversity and experience working cross culturally and/or commitment to work toward one's own cultural competence, ie. valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
  • Other duties as assigned




Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Project Management, Process Improvement or Facilities Operations, Maintenance or Management, or the equivalent education, and/or work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities operations, maintenance, renovation and construction, or the equivalent education, and/or work experience..
  • Working knowledge of Constant Process Improvement, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen Event.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in the public sector, k12 or other educational settings, or the equivalent education, and/or work experience..
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously at different phases of design and implementation.
  • Ability to work in a diverse organizational climate and collaborate with stakeholders with different levels of technical comprehension and skill sets in order to create cross functional teams, explain complex concepts and present information to various stakeholder groups and the general population.
  • Valid Drivers License meeting the criteria of MMSD Risk Management.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some
    combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight, twenty to fifty pounds.
  • Physical requirements may include operating lifts, utilizing scaffolds, ladders or other heavy
    equipment as assigned on the construction sites.
  • This position requires the ability to travel between job sites (project sites) and is required to report in an office environment with the ability to travel to complete site visits on assigned projects indoors or outdoors.
Environmental Adaptability:

  • Position requires occasional varied working hours and the ability.
  • Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office and facilities test equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, sound meter, light meter, metal detector, electrical test equipment, thermal measuring devices, tape measures and drafting equipment.
