General Description:

The PowerSchool Administrator / Database Manager is responsible for leading the technical administration of PowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro, PowerSchool Enrollment and any additional PowerSchool modules (LMS, Assessment, Insights, etc.) and for managing other AAS databases.

The PowerSchool Administrator / Database Manager is responsible for systems administration and data integration with other AAS information systems (i.e. Active Directory, FinalSite, Toddle, G Suite for Education, and many others).

In addition, the PowerSchool Administrator / Database Manager will ensure complete documentation and procedures are in place. The PowerSchool/Database Administrator will assist and train school end-users (new and current) on a regular basis. This position is also responsible for extending the student information system and edge systems as needed to include new functionality such as a robust parent portal, enhanced reporting, and data analytics. The PowerSchool Administrator /Database Manager works in collaboration with other members of the Technology department and reports to the Chief Information Officer.

The PowerSchool Administrator / Database Manager should embrace the AAS Mission, Vision, and Core Values, promoting the school and the IT Department in all words, actions, and behaviors.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related area, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2-years experience managing a PowerSchool student information system and PowerTeacher Pro gradebook
  • Must have at least 1-year experience administering a student information system (SIS) and 2-years of systems administration/management experience.
  • Must be eligible to receive a security clearance certification (provided by AAS)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced SQL, scripting, HTML, and reporting skills
  • PHP, MySQL
  • Comfortable using and manipulating spreadsheets
  • Experience with Google Sheets
  • Experience with data analysis whether descriptive or predictive in nature
  • Strong evidence of supporting a large and technically diverse group of clients in previous roles is expected
  • Oracle and web application development
  • Skills & experience in using API of 3rd party software vendors (thick client & web based)
  • Ability to prepare documentation, instructions notes
  • Experience with Learning Support and Student Assessment systems and/or other types of data analysis systems.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to work with people of various backgrounds with all levels of technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage shifting priorities
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Core Duties:

  • Further implements, develops and maintains the student information system environments (currently PowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro and PowerSchool Enrollment), including user accounts and security groups/roles, and recommends improvements in processes and workflows according to best practices
  • Plans and executes basic and advanced database functions as required/related to systems operations.
  • Manages the PS server, its connection to other systems in the school, including system updates, data management & integrity, creating system reports, master scheduling, and other aspects of user support in the system.
  • Sets up and maintains a backup and archive solution and a test environment.
  • Plans, implements, coaches, and trains for new releases and program updates of AAS database(s).
  • Creates and maintains advanced reporting capabilities within PowerSchool and other AAS databases.
  • Leads the research, analysis, requirements, design, testing and implementation of new database-related features, customizations, and add-on modules.
  • Monitors ongoing operations and data integrity and assists with student data audits.
  • Supports data analysis, student assessments and grading, and accreditation reporting needs on an ad-hoc and regular basis, according to AAS procedures.
  • Works with other school staff to align the student information system database(s) (currently PowerSchool and PowerTeacher Pro system configurations) to academic and other AAS policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate and current system documentation on procedures and configurations
  • Works with IT colleagues on user questions, customization & reporting requests, and technical problems with PowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro and other databases, with ultimate responsibility for end user support.
  • Coordinates and administers PowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro, and add-on modules training to end users
  • Participates in evaluating new software and database projects to determine impacts and configurations.
  • Responsible for integration of various existing and new corporate applications, databases,  and services (i.e. Oracle’s Taleo and 1C) including end-user support and documentation.
