GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the school's buildings and facilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Sweeps or dust mops floors daily in assigned area
• Vacuums carpets daily and /or shampoos carpets as needed to maintain in good condition
• Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks, etc., fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers
• Dusts furniture, walls, window sills, baseboards, chalk trays, and other woodworks
• Washes walls, woodwork, Venetian blinds, etc.
• Cleans drinking fountains
• Cleans and polishes brass or other metal fixtures
• Moves furniture as required
• Sprays, buffs, scrubs, strips, and refinishes all types of floors
• Secures buildings
• Cleans storage rooms and equipment
• Shovels snow, cuts grass, trims shrubbery, etc.
• Performs routine custodial work in the care and cleaning of school buildings
• Is available 24 hours a day if necessary due to emergency or snow removal operations
• Performs other related duties as required

• Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written directions
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
• Ability to get along well with others
• Ability to perform responsibilities independently and thoroughly

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required
