Lake Forest High School is seeking Special Education Teachers for Extended School Year (ESY) in the following program areas: NET, Transition, Educational Life Skills (ELS) and Instructional English and Math.

The ESY dates are from June 8, 2022 through July 12, 2021, Monday-Thursday mornings from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm. There will be no school June 27th - July 4th.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the special education teacher for assigned students
  • Develops and implements IEPs including transition plans, accommodations and goals
  • Plans lessons, prepares instructional materials, and presents lessons effectively
  • Provides for differences of individuals and groups
  • Evaluates student achievement effectively
  • Interacts with students in a manner that encourages respectful relationships among students and teacher
  • Provides one-on-one and/or or in small group instruction to help students develop skills
  • Understands characteristics of individuals with disabilities across the age range, including levels of severity, multiple disabilities and their influence on development, behavior and learning
  • Understands the impact of language disorders, processing deficits, intellectual abilities, behavioral/emotional/social disorders, and physical (including sensory) disabilities on learning and behavior
  • Plans effective instructional strategies for adapting or modifying general curriculum to meet the needs of individual students, and strategies to implement and prioritize longitudinal, outcome-based curriculum, including social, language, academic, vocational skills, and life skill domains (i.e. domestic, recreation/leisure, vocational, and community)
  • Utilizes specialized materials, equipment, and assistive technology for individuals with disabilities and understands the use of adaptive equipment for students with disabilities to plan and prepare for the integration of assistive and instructional technology to meet a student's individual needs
  • Prepares and utilizes assessment methodologies to adapt for individual students as appropriate, including physical adaptations to meet a student's individual needs
  • Understands the aspects of schedule, routines, and transitions that promote development and learning
  • Demonstrates ways in which technology can assist with creating and managing the learning environment, incorporating the verbal and visual redirection and classroom expectations
  • Provides supervision of teaching assistants
  • Consults with related service providers to plan for student's needs and required adaptations, modifications, and use of assistive/adaptive technology
  • Implements strategies for assessing students' skills within curricular areas including academic, social and vocational
  • Implements classroom and individual behavioral management plans and actively participates in functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans for students
  • Understands and effectively utilizes computerized web-based systems for documentation procedures/communication, goal development, progress monitoring, performance assessment, accommodations/modifications, program supports and overall IEP information
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with staff
  • Works cooperatively with school personnel (Directors, Student Services staff, Deans) to benefit students
  • Communicates effectively with parents to enhance the learning process by responding to or initiating parent contacts in a timely, professional and constructive manner
  • Executes Board of Education and building policies and procedures
  • Uses appropriate channels to resolve concerns and problems

Qualifications:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement
  • Previous teaching experience - preferred
