Summary:

The communications specialist will support the People Services department with all of its communications needs, which includes editing, proofreading, and writing employee communications that are dynamic and engaging. This position entails out-of-the-box-style thinking, coupled with a keen eye for detail, to align messaging and elevate telling the story of our people and why NHA is a great place to work.

The communications specialist reports to the director of communications and works out of our Service Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. This individual will be joining an energetic team, in a fast-paced environment, whose work is responsible for elevating the NHA employee experience.

Your Role
  • Proactively drive the People Services communications strategy with creative and thoughtful public relations-style campaigns.
  • Create and implement communications plans that support People Services initiatives - such as employee engagement and retention.
  • Coordinate employee communications with a focus on messaging alignment.
  • Support People Services efforts that promote NHA as a great place work.
  • Develop blog content using a sharp understanding of Key Words and SEO.
  • Create and maintain editorial calendars for all project work.
  • Coordinate media advisories, press releases, and blog and social media posts, as needed.
  • Provide editing and proofreading support.
  • Assist in the management of and response to media queries.
  • Assist in the creation of crisis communications responses.
  • Manage multiple projects and requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Be well-read on employee engagement communications best-practices.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and customer service-oriented approach to your work.
  • Other communications duties as assigned by the director of communications.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or public relations.
  • 2 plus years of relevant communications experience.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Expert understanding of AP Style.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Detail oriented with proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be a self-starter who possesses a can-do attitude.
  • Desire to continuously improve skill sets.
