Full-time HVAC Tech!

RFSD is seeking a full-time, year-round HVAC Tech. This position will be 40 hours per week & is benefits eligible.

Starting pay range: $27.00 - $32.27/hr DOE

DEFINITION
Repairs, overhauls, replaces, installs and services various air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, boilers, and related equipment throughout the District. The HVAC Technician is scheduled to work 260 days and is considered non-exempt.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Facilities Director.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Diagnoses problems and repairs, overhauls and installs boilers, air conditioning, refrigeration, heat exchangers, ventilation and related equipment, including cafeteria refrigeration equipment, compressors, coils, fans, and controls.

Inspects, maintains and performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment.

Replaces motors, belts, bearing and complete blowers; adjusts controls of systems to equalize flow and proper distribution of air.
Performs "troubleshooting" of malfunctioning or inoperative refrigeration and AC equipment. Traces leaks in lines with instruments, replace tubing, check gauges and adds chemicals needed to maintain equipment. May add or drain refrigerant.
Maintain tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
Takes and records readings of air conditioning and heating equipment, temperature, pressure, humidity, velocity from thermostats, gauges and meters and make necessary adjustments or repairs to correct deficiencies.
May work on electrical wiring, fixtures, kitchen equipment, overhaul boilers, water heaters and filters.

May fabricate equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.

Assists in the development of plans and specifications for major and minor capital construction and renovation projects.

Operates standard office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns; may be required to carry a pager.

Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
Reports to work on time and accurately record time worked; may need to adjust work schedule due to weather conditions, emergencies or other work related projects; work overtime as needed.

Works collaboratively with all maintenance employees; may train or instruct other maintenance staff in the areas of expertise.

Contributes to the overall success of the Facilities Department by performing all other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, test equipment, practices and skills used in the repair
Modifications and installations of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including electrical of various voltages and controls.
Hand and power tools used in the trade area.
Wiring diagrams, building plans and technical materials.
Parts and supplies necessary for the various jobs assigned.
Preventive maintenance principles and practices
Work order system and assigned software

Ability to:
Order required parts and supplies.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical materials and plans.
Follow safety regulations.
Estimate time and materials for various jobs and prepare completion reports.
Use tools and power equipment skillfully.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Interpret, apply and explain District regulations, policies and procedures
Operate a computer and assigned software
Perform heavy manual labor in unfavorable weather conditions.
Work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Meet schedules and timelines

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Graduation from high school or possession of GED and minimum three years experience in HVAC.

OR

Graduation from high school or possession of GED and completion of two (2) years of technical training in air conditioning and refrigeration may substitute for one year of the required experience. Minimum of two years experience.

Training:
Required training to be completed within the first year.

License or Certificate:
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:
Office and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders, work or inspect around heavy construction equipment; respond to and carry a pager for District emergencies as needed.

Physical Conditions:
Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy, moderate or light lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; working in small, confined spaces; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
