Job Description

Early Childhood at KIPP DC:

In our early childhood academies, children grow academically, emotionally, and socially in environments rooted in inclusion and teamwork. KIPP DC gives its early childhood students a strong foundation in the core academic subjects through play-based learning instruction and an emphasis on developing the social and emotional skills necessary to succeed in school and life. Our teachers create joyful and equitable learning environments where our youngest students can thrive and develop a desire for learning. All early childhood lead teacher positions are exempt and report to the school leader.

Why teach at KIPP DC Early Childhood Schools:
  • Collaboration. Through ample planning time, grade level and content meetings, and development and wellness days, teachers work collaboratively with peers at their school and across our six middle schools.
  • Growth. Teachers receive feedback and support from school leaders, network content coaches, grade-level chairs, and other teammates to improve their teaching craft. We also offer opportunities to develop leadership skills including grade-level chair, fellowships, and leadership cohorts.
  • School culture. School culture at the elementary school level is grounded in creating joyful, identity-affirming learning environments that produce extraordinary outcomes for all students.
  • Highly competitive compensation and benefits. Our instructional salary scales are at the top of the DC market and affirm KIPP DC's value of teachers as the cornerstone of schools.

What positions are available?

KIPP DC has six early childhood schools looking for excellent teachers to join their teams. Early childhood teaching roles at KIPP DC include:

Lead Teacher: Lead classroom teachers in grades PreK3 - PreK4 provide play-based learning in a homeroom environment that promotes students' academic, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills. Kindergarten lead teachers provide reading, writing, and math instruction in a homeroom environment.

Specials Teachers: Specials, or electives, teachers in early childhood schools vary by school. Current specials offerings in our early childhood schools include physical education, creative workshop, art, and Spanish.

Special Education Teachers: Special education teachers work with students to accomplish goals on their individual education plans (IEPs) in both a push-in and pull-out setting. While most schools follow the inclusion model, some early childhood schools also support students who need more individualized instruction through a co-teaching model in their general education classroom.
