Essex Westford School District has an immediate need for full-time, school year Mainstream Instructional Assistants to join our Essex High School team to support our ExCEL (Expanding Connections for Education, Employment and Life) program. ExCEL offers functional life skills, academics, social communication skills and employment development skills for students with intellectual disabilities that significantly impact their academic achievement.
The Mainstream Individual Assistant in the EXCEL program works with a student individually and/or in small groups in collaboration with a special educator. Successful experience working with students with emotional challenges and mental health diagnosis preferred.

- Good working knowledge of disabilities of special education students, and special education teaching methods, theories and laws preferred.
- Good understanding of standard classroom operations and teaching methods; good basic teaching skills.
- Demonstrated mastery of the academic subject matter being taught to students.
- Flexibility within schedule to meet the bus and/or stay with student(s) at the end of the day.
- Able to serve as a bus aide before and/or after school desirable.
