Position Purpose
The long term substitute math interventionist will provide direct instruction to students performing below expectations and support classroom teachers at the discretion of the school principal in a coaching capacity to share strategies that would support TIER 1 interventions. The Math interventionist will be responsible for supporting student achievement in the areas of math with special attention to TIER II and TIER III instruction. The interventionist provides direct instruction, teaching individual or small groups of students struggling academically. The math interventionist also is responsible for monitoring student performance, reporting and communicating student progress and performance to teachers and/or members of the student assistance team. The math interventionist will also coach teachers on strategies to support student learning and growth in mathematics.

Position Purpose

Essential Functions
- Provide high quality mathematics instruction to individual students and small groups
- Use data to provide instruction and monitor progress, growth of students
- Use research based interventions
- Share data/communicate student performance to RTI teams and/or SAT teams
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized small group instruction and student learning
- Receives and screens referrals from teachers, instructional data teams and administrators
- Use diagnostic information to design individualized programs for each student and interpret results to classroom teachers
- Coach teachers on effective research best practices , analysis and progress monitoring as needed and at the discretion of school principals
- Co-Teach or model lessons for individual teachers as needed/when appropriate
- Work collaboratively with building principals or work under the supervision of principals to provide consistent, high expectations for all students
- Provide professional learning opportunities for staff to share expertise
- Be a leader on the intervention process (MTSS/Rti) for the school

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Ability to apply instructional strategies
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with teachers, students and administrators
- Assess student performance and monitor growth
- Provide direct TIER II/III instruction to students in need of intervention
- Knowledge of the progression of mathematical content and instructional practices related to math K-5

- CT State Teacher Certification
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree from an accredited university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
- Teaching experience
