Purpose:  The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the facilities and maintenance department; To ensure the smooth operation of work orders for all buildings; plan, lead, manage, direct, and guide maintenance staff and ensure with the CFO that adequate funding exists for projects.

General: 

  1. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.     
  2. Demonstrates professionalism by reporting to work and assigned duties on time.  
  3. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.     
  4. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Act in a professional manner and maintain a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues; adhere to cultural diversity guidelines, and exhibit the fundamentals of good public/customer service. 
  6. Complies with the school system, state and federal regulations, and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, as related to job requirements.  
  7.  Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to the chain of command. 
  8. Maintains a professional appearance as outlined by local BOE policy.
  9. Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated, and efficient school.
  10. Participates in professional organizations, workshops, and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.   
  11. Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.  
  12. Exhibits time on task and a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard-working attitude and style.  
  13. Monitors compliance with policies and laws concerning areas of responsibility.

Director of Operations

  1. Supervises and evaluates all assigned personnel.
  2. Prepares long and short-term goals for area of responsibility.
  3. Makes recommendations of appropriate actions and alternatives to the superintendent.
  4. Keeps abreast of and informs the superintendent of changes in rules and regulations of the Georgia Board of Education and State and Federal laws concerning the area of responsibility.
  5. Keeps abreast of and informs the superintendent of current trends and developments concerning area of responsibility.
  6. Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, architects, contractors, auditors, public agencies, community members, etc.)  for the purpose of planning, implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  7. Ensures department expenditures are within limits approved by the school board.
  8. Directs department operation; the maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes (e.g. major renovations; site repairs/construction, maintenance, acquisition of new land for construction, etc.) for the purposes of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  9. Facilitates meetings and workshops, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
  10. Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits, and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  11. Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, and maintaining district-wide services.
  12. Update and revise five-year facility plan as required by the Georgia Department of Education.
  13. Understand and follow the guidelines set forth by the Georgia Department of Education for public education facility construction.
  14. Plans for and inspects new construction, repair work and related projects for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently; specifications are within regulatory requirements; and approving inspection reports and payment requests.
  15. General knowledge of construction, maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  16. General knowledge of building codes, state and federal OSHA environmental codes.
  17. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Provides direction and coordination for maintenance staff.
  18. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
