SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Parent University Coordinator, Family-School Partnerships Department, childcare providers will perform a variety of activities in the supervision of students at school, and in the community during Parent University workshops or events. Incumbent performs related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Childcare providers would perform a variety of engaging activities; distributes and collects engaging materials and prepares activities and audio-visual equipment for use; maintains safety and discipline by supervising students on playgrounds and library; enforces school rules and regulations; develops rapport with student and families and provides sound leadership; responsible for being an example of good sportsmanship; applies discipline in a fair and positive manner and according to prescribed procedures; maintains safety and discipline by supervising and/or assisting in the supervision of children on playgrounds, school halls, and library.

When working for large events held at the University of Nevada, Reno, the incumbent would manage a variety of tasks. Organizes the learning centers supplies. Preparedness of curriculum that is developmentally and culturally appropriate. Facilitates a variety of learning centers. Creates an environment where children can learn and explore using multiple learning styles. Organizes activities so that children can learn about the world and explore interests. Manages the classroom and implements behavioral intervention when appropriate. Ensure that the area is safe, clean, and well maintained. Assist children with breakfast/dinner and refreshments. Sanitizes toys and play equipment. Supervises and monitors the safety of children in their care. Helps children keep good hygiene. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Childcare Provider (licensing approved) - In addition to the above, this on call position is responsible for developing curriculum and leading large events.

Childcare Provider specialized in Special Education

In addition to the duites and responsabilities previously described , Childcare providers specialized in Special Education may be assigned to a variety of assigments where students who require adult support, based upon their IEP's (Individualized Education Program), would be attending. Experience in the following is necessary: Working with children (age 3 to 12 years) with cognitive, physical, or emotional/behavioral disabilities. Ability to assist children participating in the activities that are provided for all children and modify them as needed. Provide emergency and first aid care as necessary; move students weighing 50-80 pounds. Participate in district training programs when requested and receive training in and implement non-violent behavioral intervention procedures; maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. A high school diploma is desirable.

AND

2. A minimum of six (6) months of experience working with pre-school and school-age youth, is desirable. Or any experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities.

3. Childcare Provider (licensing approved) - When working at events held at the University of Nevada, Reno, the incumbent needs to be a licensing approved Childcare Provider registered with The Nevada Registry.

4. Childcare Provider specialized in Special Education - Hold a current position with WCSD in Special Educationor any experience from another institution that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge of:: Educational principles and techniques; student behavior and characteristics; basic discipline and behavior modification techniques; correct English usage; spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic mathematics; current office methods and procedures including records management; common office equipment and its usage.

Skill at:: Securing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of children; dealing tactfully with children, parents and school personnel; evaluating situations accurately and taking effective action; teaching good sportsmanship; spelling correctly; reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance; preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records; organizing and distributing instructional materials; operating and maintaining audiovisual equipment; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; providing leadership and developing rapport with children.

Licenses/Certificate:s: Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR Certification is required only for Childcare Provider (licensing approved) and Childcare Provider specialized in Special Education Certifications can be obtained by employees through WCSD's Solutionwhere within 30 days of their hire date.

Childcare Provider (licensing approved):: Possession of a sheriff's card, CPR Card, a negative TB test. Meet all the licensing training requirements within the first 90 days of employment offered through The Nevada Registry which includes completing the following trainings: Child Abuse and Neglect, Signs of Illness/Bloodborne Pathogens (SOI), Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), First Aid, Wellness (Obesity/Nutrition/Physical Activity) and Child Development/Guidance & Discipline. Must be a member of Nevada Registry. Complete 24 hours of training, including the Wellness training annually with The Nevada Registry to possess an active license.

Special Considerations:This on-call position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evening hours. This is an on-call position, working at various schools or in the community during regular school hours, evening hours as well as weekends.

Childcare would be provided for children from age 3 through middle school. No diaper changes.

Childcare Provider specialized in Special Education - $16.00 per hour

Childcare Provider (licensing approved) - $18.00 per hour

Additional Job Information:

Applications are taken on an on-going basis. As positions become available, applications will be reviewed by administrators and interviews/hiring will take place. Part-time WCSD employees may be considered for the On-Call Childcare Provider position not to exceed 40 hours per week. On-Call and Temporary positions do not qualify for benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
