PURPOSE OF JOB: To create a nurturing, safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and addresses the needs of students from three to five who have been identified to receive special education services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Serve as a provider of direct services by implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for those children with disabilities in a variety of settings.

Implement an appropriate educational program that addresses the following for each student:

A safe, nurturing classroom environment.

A variety of opportunities to learn through direct and indirect instruction.

Learning experiences that allow students to make choices and addresses their individual needs.

The utilization of multiple and differentiated instructional strategies.

Interprets students' educational needs and progress to parents; maintains a parent contact log

Identifies the specific learning needs of each student properly identified as disabled under IDEA and maintains a clear record of each student's instructional experience and progress in the permanent special education file.

Act as a member of interdisciplinary team when designing/delivering services to young children with disabilities

Demonstrates skill in pupil assessment as the basis for instructional programming

Evaluates pupil progress and makes appropriate recommendations

Acts as a resource to building staff regarding disability methods and materials.

Participate in transition meetings to insure smooth transitions for children entering and leaving early childhood special education services.

Implement district approved curriculum and programs for early childhood.

Communicate regularly with parents by utilizing newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.

Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals.

Keeps abreast of and complies with applicable statutes and regulations, including due process safeguards and the Missouri State Plan.

Prepares and submits reports according to timelines outlined in the Missouri State Plan; responds to requests for information as required

Maintains data to adequately report student progress

Participate in professional growth activities, faculty meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.

Follows the policies and procedures of the school district.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree from a four year college or university

Missouri State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Special Education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Missouri State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education (in addition to the above certification)

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 work days
