QUALIFICATIONS:
1.High School diploma desirable
2.Satisfactory health as evidenced through physical examination by physician.
3.Ability to communicate effectively - orally and in writing - with school administrators, faculty and custodial staff.
4.Previous experience, demonstrated aptitude and competence in custodial maintenance work.
5.Demonstrated ability in use of custodial tools and equipment.
6.Demonstrated aptitude with computer applications including Excel, Word, Email and the Internet.
7.Must be able to list 50-60 pounds without assistance.
8.Such alternative to above qualifications as the School Committee or Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORT TO: Principal, Superintendent and Facilities Director

JOB MISSION: To maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Helps in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff.
2. Plans and oversees all custodial maintenance to ensure a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency.
3. Monitors all custodian time records and certifies them for salary payment.
4. Maintains an inventory, requisitions supplies, and recommends for purchase of suitable tools, equipment, and custodial supplies.
5. Acts as a working leader insuring the daily cleaning of the entire school, its grounds, walkways, drives, and play areas.
6. Regulates the use of utilities to obtain maximum economy and efficiency consistent with safety and health.
7. Checks the proper opening of all doors in the morning on school days and their closing at night.
8. Is responsible for establishing a preventative maintenance program for the ongoing upkeep of mechanical and electrical equipment.
9. Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property as a result of vandalism or other acts.
10. During the winter season checks the proper clearing of snow from walkways and entrances to the schools and assists his staff when necessary to ensure this is done.
11. Makes minor building repairs himself/herself or with his/her staff and reports major repairs needed to the school principal.
12. Complies with laws and ordinances regarding the storage and disposal of rubbish.
13. Must be available to work overtime to cover special events and emergencies.
14. Conducts periodic tests of all safety equipment such as extinguishers, alarms, emergency lighting systems, etc.
15. Prepares formal written evaluations for all custodians in the building.
16. Implements energy conservation measures and is responsible for proper thermostat settings.
17. Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-year position

SALARY RANGE: In accordance with the current Agreement between the Longmeadow Education Association (Unit H) and the Longmeadow School Committee.

The Head Custodian is responsible for the comfortable operation of the School ensuring that standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety are met. Also responsible for the execution of administrative tasks required to operate the school in an effective manner. The following information is provided pursuant to ADA requirements.
