We are seeking to hire an inspiring, detail-oriented and visionary Elementary School Principal who has the ability, passion, drive and commitment to join our team and provide high quality leadership and management for One City Elementary School. The school presently serves grades 4k through 4th grade and will add its 5th and final grade level in September 2022. One City Expeditionary Elementary School (OCEES) is an EL Education Network School, offering the highly regarded EL Education project-based learning curriculum (https://eleducation.org). It is also a unique, two-generation public school, authorized by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, that provides a tuition-free education to children and works directly with families to ensure children are inspired, learning, growing and achieving to their full potential. OCEES is also the only public school in Wisconsin that offers both a longer school day (8:00am to 4:30pm) and longer school year (219 days vs 180 days in traditional public schools), including 60 to 90 minutes of co-curricular learning academies in Sports, Fitness, STEM, Girl Scouts, Boys to Men and the Creative and Performing Arts.
The Pleasant T. Rowland Leadership Campus, our new home at 1707 W Broadway, borders Madison and Monona and includes large outdoor space that will be developed into usable exploration space. Inside the 157,000 square foot building that we are currently renovating, we are creating innovative spaces including a barber shop and hair salon, laundry room, a student-run DJ booth, coffee shop, school store, student activity and learning center, a student-run branch of Summit Credit Union branch, and a teacher training suite where preservice and veteran educators can learn from seasoned professionals and content experts.

OUR STATEMENT ON DIVERSITY
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than just words for One City Schools. We currently have the most diverse staff in Southern Wisconsin and are dedicated to fielding a team that continues to reflect the scholars and families we serve. PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
In September of 2022, One City Elementary School will enroll 326 students in grades 4K through 5th grade. Presently, our 1707 W. Broadway facility is undergoing a $14 million renovation. The renovation will be 100% completed when our staff and scholars return to school for the beginning of the September 2022 school year and offer the most inspiring and innovative learning environments in Dane County, Wisconsin.
The Elementary School Principal is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of OCES, ensuring that our teachers, staff, partners and volunteers provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where the self-esteem of children is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality is respected. More importantly, the Principal will be responsible for working with One City's CEO, Head of Schools, Preschool Director and other team members to ensure we meet and achieve our organizational goals and objectives, and that we cultivate leaders within our school who can become leaders of additional schools in the future. Specific responsibilities include:
- Implement One City’s Annual Work plan to guide and support a dynamic teach of teachers/staff in integrating EL Educations’ model practices and rigorous academic programs
- Guide the development and implementation of effective curriculum, instruction and assessment, along with target interventions, leading students to become self-directed learners prepared for success in secondary school, and future college and career success.
- Demonstrate experience with inquiry-based instruction, or the capacity to learn and adapt to this learning environment quickly
- Evaluate and oversee the development and implementation of instructional programs and activities.
- Assists in guaranteeing appropriate curriculum, daily schedule and student activities.
- Recruits, hires, supervises, develops and evaluates school staff.
- Implements One City policy, state regulations and City and national standards as they pertain to OCES.
- Builds staff Crew (an EL core practice focused on building cohesion, camaraderie and teamwork among staff) and monitors stakeholder culture to ensure positive learning environments for children.
- Ensures effective onboarding orientation for children, parents, staff and volunteers.
- Observe teachers to monitor program environment, interactions with children and overall job performance.
- Plans, implements and participates in One City’s Professional Development program and related activities.
- Conduct annual staff evaluations (observation, feedback, and goal setting) to assure professional development.
- Responsible for reaching enrollment annual enrollment and staffing targets of the school.
- Work with the Head of Schools and Preschool Director to coordinate and implement One City’s goals and strategic plans.
- Oversees the implementation of curriculum and evaluation, and determines needed changes or adaptations.
- Analyzes and reports on student and staff performance assessments, as a basis for curriculum improvement and staff development needs.
- Develops task assignments and work groups as necessary, and monitors progress.
- Assists in the selection, supervision, termination, evaluation and reward/recognition of personnel.
- Manages to the approved budget.
- Monitors center maintenance, facility needs, and services
- Monitors custodial services to ensure a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment.
- Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
- Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups to task accomplishments.
- Plans and executes monthly staff meetings.
- Facilitates problem solving with individuals and groups.
- Counsels with parents and staff to resolve problems and concerns.
- Assists parents and designated staff in contacting and accessing agency support services.
- Builds and maintains positive and engaging relationships with parents.
- Works cooperatively with families to strengthen the educational program for their children.
- Respects each family’s uniqueness and advocates for children and families.
- Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and center rules and regulations.
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of planning time and establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.
- Strives to communicate the positive aspects of One City to the public in word and deed.
- Continues professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities.
School Growth and Stability
- Fully implement One City's curricula, assessment, and learning systems used by staff, students and families.
- Hire skilled and diverse instructional and non-instructional staff.
- Develop school policies, systems, and structures
- Support student and family recruitment and outreach efforts to ensure the expansion grades open fully enrolled
- Plan and lead professional learning and team building experiences for expansion staff
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years teaching experiences in a elementary school setting.
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Valid Wisconsin Administrators License, or eligibility to receive a license.
- Knowledge of and experience with student centered curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Success working in an urban setting with students from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Excellent judgment, communication and creative problem-solving skills.
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive.
- Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
- Successful completion of a background check required.
COMPENSATION AND EVALUATION
One City offers market competitive salaries and wages with comprehensive health benefits to all full-time employees. Compensation will be consistent with One City’s approved compensation plan as stipulated by the Board of Directors. Benefits include:
- Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000 depending on experience and demonstrated impact as teacher or administrator
