GED English / Social Studies Instructor for Farmington Continuing Education. Position starts February 2022.

Qualifications:
  • Candidate should have a Professional Educator Certificate or CT Adult Education certification for mandated non-credit courses (Endorsement ##106 or 107).
  • Candidate should attend mandatory adult education meetings and staff development sessions.
  • Candidate will meet with program coordinator and/or facilitator to discuss classroom materials, and prepare curriculum.
  • Candidate should create and maintain a positive learning environment and standards of behavior.
  • Candidate should plan life skills and academic instruction based on needs assessments, appropriate appraisal instruments, and program guidelines that are based on the CCRS system.
  • Candidate should develop teaching strategies that are appropriate for the adult learner.
  • Candidate should implement instruction that reflects structure and logical sequence.
  • Candidate should organize and request teaching materials appropriate for adult learners.
  • Candidate will help administer appropriate CCS placement appraisals, pre/post tests, and GED ready tests.
  • Candidate should be prepared to conduct the classroom on a virtual platform.

Salary: $30 per hour

Work Schedule: 2.5 hours per week (28 weeks per school year - September thru May)

Wednesdays at FHS (6 - 8:30 p.m.)

Reports to: Farmington Continuing Education Coordinator

General Description: The adult education GED teacher will provide instruction and is responsible for student learning in the vacancy subject areas (Math, English, Social Studies & Science) to prepare students to pass the official GED® test and obtain a GED diploma. They will assist students develop the academic knowledge, workforce development/life skills, and attitude that will contribute to the student's development as a mature, productive and responsible global citizen.
