Description of Service Opportunity:
This Service Agreement is applicable to Mentors who are paired with two or more (2+) mentees.
Mentor Teachers for the NTIP work within the guidelines for the NTIP and collaborate with the building principal on a school support team for newly hired teachers with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education "Initial" or "Preliminary" licenses. Mentors will provide research-based support and are responsible for building relationships with new teachers by serving as an advocate, listener and confidante. As a role model of a "reflective learner of his/her own teaching", mentors are expected to share ideas and promote inquiry in order to enhance their mentee's ability to reflect deeply on practice. Mentors will maintain a confidential relationship with their mentees, orient new teachers to school and district wide norms, expectations, and initiatives, and provide key information about the school, district and community.
Mentors are required to:
__ attend mentor training sessions a minimum of 6 times throughout the year.
__ maintain direct contact with mentee through individual coaching, phone conversations, or at least 4 meetings a month to provide at least 50 hours of instructional, planning, and personal support throughout the year.
__ schedule 4 observation visits in mentor/mentee's classroom over the course of the year in order to analyze and __- assess their mentee's practice in relation to established district standards and evaluation criteria.
__ assist mentees with documenting and logging hours for licensure
__ complete and provide documentation of a district sponsored Mentor Teacher training or other approved mentor training.
__ submit a monthly contact log with date, times and topics of all meetings.
