*Licensed staff new to Westminster Public Schools is contracted for 190 days the first year*

SUMMARY : The vision of the Westminster Public Schools Division of Social Emotional Learning is "To Transform the way we as adults and students interact with ourselves, each other, and the world around us." The SEL Counselor supports this vision through partnerships with instructional staff, mental health interventionists, and building administrators at the middle level to implement the WPS SEL model in a Competency Based System. The SEL Counselor reports directly to the Director of SEL & Student Agency and works directly with educators and students within the fabric of existing SEL practices in buildings to expand Tier I and II SEL instruction and enhance Adult Social Emotional Learning among staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Valid license with a School Counseling Endorsement from Colorado Department of Education (or willingness to obtain School Counseling Endorsement if endorsed in other area)
•Effectively models strong social emotional competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making)
•Candidates with endorsements in CLDE, Bilingual Ed, Foreign Language, and/or sheltered content or other English Language instructional training, including bilingual skills desired
•Experience and/or skills for interacting and working with culturally diverse populations desired
•Has knowledge and experience in Competency-based education approaches or willingness to learn
•Demonstrates effective interpersonal rapport and relationships with students and staff
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Excellent customer service and public relations skills
•Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
•Shows calm and collected demeanor during crisis situations
•Has the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively
•Promotes and follows all Board of Education policies and district procedures
•Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English
*Once an initial selection has been made, the candidate will be required to demonstrate having COVID immunization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Deliver evidence-based and CASEL-aligned direct social emotional learning practices for students and staff in assigned schools
•Provide modeling, co-teaching, and coaching sessions for Tier I SEL instruction
•Promote student agency through implementation of the WPS instructional model and phased rollout of WPS SEL Proficiency Scales
•Serve on the district trauma leadership team and provide related professional development in buildings
•Serve a leadership capacity in the organization (e.g. support climate/culture surveys, universal SEL competency perceptual data collection, trauma-responsive systems, school-wide SEL initiatives, etc.)
•Focus on Tier I and II instruction, but be willing to serve on a team that addresses Tier III SEL or crisis needs (e.g. Behavior intervention planning, consultation on suicide assessments and child abuse/neglect reports)
•Stays current with SEL research-based literature for expertise development (e.g., CASEL)
•Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
