LearningWorks' mission is to provide a challenging, year-round academic enrichment program for motivated and traditionally underrepresented students from Minneapolis Public Schools, setting them on a post-secondary path; while preparing and inspiring talented college and high school students to become the next generation of educators.

About the Role

As a crucial member of a small yet impactful LearningWorks team, the Student Services Director (SSD) is primarily responsible for all non-academic, student-facing support services as well as data management. As an ambassador of the program, the SSD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, and schools to ensure the academic and socio-emotional success of all LearningWorks Scholars.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of safe, engaging and culturally relevant youth development and enrichment programming for students (middle and high school) and support volunteers in its implementation.
  • Manage recruitment, admissions, and ongoing support of LearningWorks students, which includes recruiting students from Minneapolis Public school middle schools.
  • Track student progress through available data (i.e. grades, test scores, attendance) and provide support to students and their families as needed to ensure LearningWorks achieves its objectives.
  • Manage family and student communication to foster maximum attendance and engagement.
  • Sustain partnerships with local middle and high schools for the purpose of student recruitment, student placement, and student data.
  • As part of a team, support in the recruitment/selection of teaching fellows and volunteers; and provide ongoing feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Address behavioral incidents and conflicts with students and volunteers according to established LearningWorks practices; use judgment to escalate incidents to executive director level as needed.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • Associates degree required in youth development, education,, or equivalent degree; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2 years experience working with middle and high school aged students and their families in a youth development and/or educational setting.

  • Ability to work flexible hours. This may include adjusting the weekly schedule to accommodate several evening events a year (such as parent-teacher conferences) + monthly Saturday sessions during the school year.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the barriers to educational equity and access to higher education and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Bilingual
  • Previous experience using: Salesforce, various social media platforms, and Google apps
  • Familiarity with the Breakthrough Collaborative model
