Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to oversee/manage MMSD Electricians; respond to facility electrical concerns; exercise decision-making in the management of electrical improvement and maintenance projects; review, evaluate and either recommend or disapprove electrical drawings and specifications submitted.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing MMSD Electricians in responding to facility electrical concerns.
  • Assisting in hiring electricians and prioritizes daily work assignments.
  • Exercising decision-making in the management of electrical improvements and maintenance projects.
  • Reviewing, evaluating and approving or disapproving electrical drawings and specifications submitted by consultants.
  • Utilizing sound judgment in the preparation of project cost estimates and the selections of required materials.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the work of contractors and consultants.
  • Managing project budgets and approving construction payments.
  • Developing and administering the Electrical Shop budget.
  • Developing electrical-related policies on a District-wide basis for review.
  • Preparing long-range capital plan and will be responsible for daily and monthly planning related to improvements and maintenance.
  • Acting as a liaison between contractors, consultants and the District.
  • Communicating with state and city personnel to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Maintaining and overseeing testing of fire alarm systems.
  • Overseeing maintenance of the District-wide security camera system.
  • Coordinating telephone service into MMSD.
  • Overseeing the maintenance and operation of electronic access control systems.
  • Maintaining and coordinating elevator repairs.
  • Handling daily communications with subordinates and custodial staff to process maintenance requests and handle emergencies.


Qualifications:

  • Registration as an Electrical Designer
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Electrical Design and management experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to develop a strong leadership team, assign personnel and delegate responsibilities with assurance and accountability.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and effective interpersonal skills. Must possess compassion and the ability to communicate effectively with all types of individuals.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, odors and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office and facilities test equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, sound meter, light meter, metal detector, electrical test equipment, thermal measuring devices, tape measures and drafting equipment.
Environmental Adaptability:

  • Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to construction site environmental factors such temperature variations or extremes, odors, toxic agents, noise, machinery, electrical currents and/or dust may cause discomfort and poses a limited risk of injury.
