    Position Overview
    The Director of School Improvement position is designed to primarily provide direct school support around data analysis and coaching support. Under the direction of Deputy Superintendent of Excellence, Equity and Inclusion, this person will manage vital network instructional functions while serving as a member of the district research and evaluation support team. The key purpose of the Director of School Improvement is to influence and drive rapid improvement in Norwalk Public Schools by creating high quality outcomes and opportunities (better progress than that achieved nationally) for scholars and the school community. In addition, a core focus of this role is to provide ongoing support to administrators and teachers at the building level on the use of data to inform instructional practices and decision-making to meet the needs of all students and to assist schools in disaggregation of student achievement data generated from formative and summative assessments to impact instruction.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Develop clear, specific, and ambitious performance targets and evaluate progress of school programs and initiatives
    • Analyzes educational studies, student data, test results for the purpose of providing information, and producing reports for site administrators on student progress, as well as to state and federal agencies.
    • Assesses district schools identified for improvement and/or scoring below state target levels for the purpose of coordinating appropriate district and state support for the identified school.
    • Maintain constant contact with schools, spending approximately 75% of his or her time in the schools, working with the leadership teams of those schools to support network initiatives.
    • Build the instructional leadership capacity of principals and school leadership teams with particular focus on data analysis and professional development.
    • Collaborate across the network to provide the appropriate system resources that address the needs of schools.
    • Foster a vibrant and collaborative professional learning community among administrators across the network by collaborating with other network leaders to establish and share best practices.
    • Respond and coordinate follow-up support as needed in emergency situations.
    • Track and monitor progress toward intended goals and deliverables utilizing clear systems and structures to facilitate meeting timelines and goals.
    • Facilitate and engage in professional learning opportunities to increase and build capacity of a variety of stakeholders.
    • Maintain alignment to priorities determined by the Deputy Superintendent and District Support Team.
    • Collaborate with others (e.g. district personnel, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs, and to identify and assess student needs.
    • Collaborates with Superintendent's cabinet and program administrators for the purpose of facilitating the use of evaluation findings and recommendations to immediate and long-range planning and decision making to determine program's effectiveness.
    Education, Experience and Certifications
    • Master's Degree required, 6 th year or Doctorate preferred
    • 092 or 093 CT State Certification required
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of school leadership experience
    • A high level of proficiency with MS Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Strong technology skills and internet savvy
    • Comfort and experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
    • Leadership and interest in K-12, boarding, and higher education standards and practices
    • Leadership and experience in urban education and the challenges facing underrepresented families
    • Experience working in a startup environment and/or education reform

    • Excellent computer skills with common office applications

    Schedule: 12-month role/full-time
    Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000
