JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Technician Floor

REPORT TO: Director-Building Operations

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PAY GRADE: Aux 1

P R I M ARY PURPOSE:

The Floor Technician cleans and maintains offices, halls, classrooms and similar areas in the school building and performs related work as required by immediate supervisor. Result will be a safe, clean and efficient building environment. Perform project work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

High School graduate or GED from an accredited institution

P referred :
Two+ years job-related experience

S P EC IAL NOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Ability to understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Knowledge of floor care programs or ability to learn how to properly maintain floors through national recognized company
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Duties:
Cleans floors by vacuuming, sweeping or mopping daily
Dust, vents, ledges, shelves and horizontal surfaces
Disinfect restroom sinks, urinals, fixtures, partitions, showers and floors
Polish all chrome
Disinfect public phones and water fountains
Remove facility trash and place in dumpster. Re-line cans
Empty pencil sharpeners
Wash and dry mops/rags as needed
Lower and raise cafeteria tables
Perform set-ups for meetings and special events
Police grounds and parking lot daily
Replenish dispensers as needed
Shampoo carpets and refinish/strip hard surface floors
Other general custodial duties as assigned by the supervisor including, but not limited to moving furniture and equipment

Related Duties:
Move furniture and perform project cleaning
Mix chemicals
Sweep sidewalks, patios and entrances
Responding to emergencies or crisis situation in the District as directed by supervisor.

Audio/Visual Demands:
Average hearing
Corrected 20/20 vision
Good depth perception
Ability to distinguish between colors

Type of Equipment Used:
Vacuum cleaner, broom, dust mop, wet mop, bucket, wringer, spray bottles, high duster, cart, small hand tools, roto, extractor, propane stripper and propane burnisher

Personal Protective Equipment:
Rubber gloves, goggles and apron are required when mixing chemicals. Back support belts should be used when lifting, if available.

Required Training:
1st day orientation - Hazardous Communications/M.S.D.S./Fire Safety/Proper Lifting Techniques/Eye Safety
180-Day on-the-job training and Two-Hour Asbestos Awareness

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting (50lb or more) and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. Work alone as well as with other team members.
Environmental Conditions: Required to use chemicals daily, working in extreme weather conditions (with and without air conditioning depending on facility requirements). Overtime is required as necessary.
