Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, the LTS (Long Term Substitute) will gain essential and meaningful teaching experience. Excellent performance in this capacity will position a teacher well to compete for permanent teaching positions in Providence Schools and elsewhere.
Compensation and benefits for this position are equal to the compensation and benefits of a regular teacher including salary according to the Providence teacher salary scale (including during school vacation) on a step determined by previous teaching experience (credit given for experience in accredited schools and/or in a certified capacity). Other benefits include paid sick days, generous health benefits, and paid professional development.

As a Classroom Co-Educator Special Educator, you will collaborate with a regular education teacher or multiple teachers to plan and present lesson plans, create assessments and make sure the needs of all students in the classroom are being met. While your focus may be on planning with your special education students in mind, the goal of an inclusion classroom is to keep special education students from feeling singled out. The inclusion teacher focus is on scaffolding activities and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students, not just the special education students.
Roles & Responsibilities
Job Specification:
- Provide direct support to students in a classroom by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.Develop Individualized Student Programs (IEP) for students; maintain compliance with all Federal Regulations and State Policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons and learning environment. Instruction may be provided within the regular classroom setting, resource setting, and/or small classroom setting.Design engaging classroom activities and differentiated lessons ls so that all students may access the curriculum and benefit from the educational experience.Formally and informally assess the student learning (rather than relying solely on standardized curriculum) to create a comprehensive learning program.Set high expectations that are suitable for the students. Assessments may be differentiated based on each individual student plan. This may require developing alternative assessments.Work collaboratively with Regular Education Co-Teacher, teaching and grade-level teams and other staff, especially instructional support team, to plan, share student work and ensure that instruction is aligned with identified curriculum and standards.Build a partnership with families, encouraging their active participation in students' learning.Implement academic assessments and progress monitoring tools in order to complete a comprehensive evaluation that diagnostically meet the needs of our students.Utilize response to intervention as well as current research-based strategies and interventions as they relate to both academic and behavioral needs.Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and Director of Special Services.

Minimum Qualifications
- Rhode Island Certification as a Special Education TeacherA minimum of 5 years of highly successful classroom teaching experience in special education required.Knowledge of reading and behavioral interventionsKnowledge of RI Regulations Governing Students with DisabilitiesStrong oral and written communication skills.Knowledge and experience with research-based co-teaching models.Knowledge of differentiating instruction and Response to Intervention process.Knowledge of Early Learning Standards, AAGSEs, GLEs. And GSEs as pertinent to level.Knowledge of Implementation and analysis of District assessment toolsKnowledge of PBIS and its implementationKnowledge of PowerSchool a plusYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
