JOB TITLE: Lead Development Specialist

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Instructional Services

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: AI 3

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Lead Development Specialist is responsible for upgrading the campus educational program and ensuring the incorporation of instructional strategies, that scientifically-based research has shown are effective with teaching low-achieving students. The lead development specialist under the direction of district leadership will support classroom teachers, instructional specialists, and campus administration to strengthen instruction and increase student learning on campuses at which at least 40 percent of the students are educationally disadvantaged. The lead development specialist will be directed by data and provide coaching on the instructional frames as supported by instructional rounds. This position will be required to have a strong knowledge of effective teaching and learning practices that address differentiated instruction and the digital learning of both adults and students. This position will guide the work and strategic planning of the development specialist teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university
  • 3 years job related experience
Preferred:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Classroom coaching experience (i.e., specialist/team leader/department chair, student teacher supervisor, teacher mentor, etc.)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Ability to coach teachers in the critical attributes of instruction and student engagement with diverse at-risk populations
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technology skills including technology integration
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Ability to work with adult learners

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Collaborates with teams and teachers to support the delivery of instruction to ensure students learn at high levels.
  • Analyzes data and identifies the appropriate instructional response to data trends.
  • Prepares reports to assist campus leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of current practices and to guide shifts in learning outcomes.
  • Models district-supported instructional strategies/lessons based on district curriculum and instructional framework that are scientifically proven to be effective with the at-risk learner.
  • Provides leadership and technical expertise to teachers and students for effective use of instructional technology.
  • Promotes and models digital learning to support the needs of the 21 st century educationally disadvantaged learner.
  • Builds district instructional capacity to educate the at-risk learner through professional learning based on data analysis.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy
  • Maintains positive communication with both campus leaders and the staff.
  • Works in collaboration with administrators, campus instructional leaders, content and intervention specialists, and others as part of the instructional leadership team.
  • Exhibits professionalism at all times and sees collaborative work as a process to derive at a solution that will aid student learning.
  • Guides lead, and supports the work so development specialist teams.
  • Perform all other task as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require traveling within the district. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

That number will change soon with the construction of several new facilities – including two middle schools, three ninth-grade centers and a state-of-the-art stadium that will serve the entire district – all funded by a bond referendum approved by voters in 2016.
