General Description

Teaches course content and workplace readiness skills to students enrolled in Commercial Photography. Work is performed at the professional level within specific instructional program guidelines.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develops and provides curriculum and instruction that aligns with the VDOE Commercial Photography program and the aligned career credential.
  • Works collaboratively in a technical center setting to develop work-based learning opportunities for students to meet the VDOE high quality work-based learning expectations.
  • Collaborates with outside agencies to develop work-based learning opportunities for students to meet the VDOE high quality work-based learning expectations.
  • Meets all career and technical education implementation requirements associated with the Carl D. Perkins Act implementation.
  • Meets and instructs the student(s) in the locations and at the time designated.
  • Develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom that is conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided by the system.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates mastery of content area.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Plans and delivers appropriate curriculum content to students.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management.
  • Supervises students in non-classroom time (before school, after school, student activities, fire drills).
  • Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
  • Attends and participates in faculty and department meetings.
  • Communicates regularly with parents.
  • Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • Using school system guidelines, orders materials, supplies and instructional equipment. Maintaining accurate equipment, textbook, tools and materials inventories.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Plans instructional program; demonstrates skills, assigns and evaluates coursework. Administers methods to evaluate progress. Records progress and issues reports to students, parents and administrators.
Commercial Photography Instruction:
  • Operating DSLR cameras (digital SLR 35mm cameras) with adjustable apertures, shutter speeds, ISO and RAW, jpeg file formats, studio utilizing Dynalite Studio Power packs and strobes, light boom, backdrops, reflectors and light meters.
  • Technical aspects of digital cameras i.e. all modes, menus, file formats, autofocus; how apertures, shutter speeds and ISO work (exposures); histograms; pop up and on-camera flash, picture styles, etc.
  • Application of artistic elements such as composition, depth-of-field, leading lines, filling the frame, use of color/color theory, framing, rule of odds, negative space and all of the elements and principles of design. Creation of illustrations, desktop publications, and photographic manipulations using Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe InDesign CC and Adobe Photoshop CC.
  • Elements and principles of design, color theory and composition techniques to be used in digital arts projects.
  • Creation of e-portfolios, posters, t-shirt designs, greeting cards, magazine projects, menus, business cards and resumes, and other desktop publishing projects.
  • Fundamentals of animation and basic animation projects.
  • Makes effective use of new technologies in the delivery of instruction.
  • Teaches process skills: problem solving; critical thinking, teaming, technical writing and communication related to course content and employment.
  • Enlighten students on photography careers, the photography business, the history of photography, how to critique their photography work, and how to develop an e-portfolio.
  • Develops and facilitates a program advisory committee associated with the course content; provides meeting minutes and notices of committee meeting dates and times to school administration.
  • In association with the local community college, plans, implements, and manages a dual enrollment program.
  • Serves as a sponsor for the co-curricular youth organization associated with students in the courses, including fundraising activities, setting up and running skills contests and accompanying and supervising students at youth organization activities.

Qualifications

Requires knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction. Requires general knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes. Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals, to design and deliver instruction and to assess students' learning. Demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.

Requirements

Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the applicable subject area of Commercial Photography and hold an associated industry credential. Must maintain First Aid, CPR & AED certification. Prior experience teaching career and technical education Commercial Photography is preferred.
