Qualifications:
  • Must hold or be eligible for CT State Teaching Certification in the subject area
    • Special consideration to those holding a 102/097 reading certification
  • Consideration will be given to the following -
    • Relevant and recent leadership experience
    • Deep knowledge of systems for data analysis and tiered interventions
    • Experience in organizing, implementing, and overseeing SRBI data-driven systems and interventions in the areas of reading, writing, math, and AVID
    • References that indicate excellent teaching talent, initiative, growth mindset and a learner orientation
    • Philosophy that aligns with the district's core beliefs
    • Various professional experiences that enhance contributions to the overall district and/or school community

General Description: The Data and Intervention Specialist coordinates building resources to respond to the individual academic needs of diverse learners and to ensure that all students attain high levels of achievement in standards. The Specialist provides effective instructional support and coaching to teachers aimed at ensuring that students learn core content knowledge and skills as well as the competencies and dispositions essential for success in college, career readiness, and citizenship. The Specialist develops and monitors curriculum and assessment implementation with a focus on SRBI tier one interventions. They work closely with the school principal and district leadership teams to plan and provide professional learning experiences that are responsive to teacher and student needs and focused on school goals and priorities. The Specialist will be responsible for managing the scheduling of interventions in collaboration with other district specialists. The oversight of the success of the intervention programs along with monitoring state testing results and organizing additional school-wide assessment tools is an expectation. Working as a vital member of a learning organization, teachers develop relationships with colleagues, parents, and students and work collaboratively to ensure that all children achieve academic and personal growth. As teachers, they demonstrate all aspects of CT's Code of Professional Responsibility.

Salary: $49,020-$104,599 depending on experience plus Resource Teacher Stipend ($5,115), which requires 2 additional work days beyond the teacher contract, appointment renewed annually

Evaluation: Instructional Specialists report to and are evaluated by Principals and/or Assistant Principals. Instructional Specialists will be evaluated according to the guidelines and requirements as described in Farmington's Educator Evaluation and Professional Development Plan.

MISSION, VISION AND GOALS
  • Communicate a clear vision for teaching and learning that is aligned with the district goals and core content knowledge and skills
  • Stay abreast of current research and professional literature related to teaching and learning in the discipline
  • Develop and monitor goals and collect evidence of success
  • Provide support to the principal in scheduling, budgeting, and hiring

TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Provide instructional support and coaching for teachers at all levels of experience - novice to expert
  • Lead and/or participate in the development of new curricula
  • Evaluate and recommend new instructional materials and intervention programs
  • Participates in frequent brief classroom visits to strengthen reflective conversations about effective practice
  • Lead classroom observation protocols to address instructional problems of practice

ASSESSMENT
  • Assist teachers in creating effective formative and summative assessment strategies to promote student ownership for growth and development
  • Collect, analyze, and use assessment data to help teachers plan responsive instruction and to improve programs
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the written curriculum using achievement data, teacher feedback, and classroom observations and modifies as needed for specific subgroups of students
  • Work with teachers and colleagues to calibrate and communicate expectations for meeting standard

COLLABORATION
  • Communicate with respective departments and collaborate with administration and school leaders to create a budget
  • Communicate to foster positive home-school partnerships
  • Plan and lead department meetings in collaboration with K-12 school leaders and FHS department leaders
  • Develop strong partnerships with FPS leadership teams in order to promote and ensure K-12 alignment
  • Contribute to district-wide committees to build coherence across all levels
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse cultures, values and beliefs
  • Contribute to a positive school culture and collaborative improvement work

PROFESSIONALISM
  • Facilitate and lead professional development offerings that align with district and school improvement efforts
  • Demonstrate a learner orientation - participate in and lead professional development opportunities, take initiative to improve professional practice, learn from feedback, contribute to the learning of other teachers and teacher leaders
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility - good attendance, timely work completion, organized and confidential record keeping, and ethical behavior
