Flossmoor School District 161 is excited to announce the start of a search for a new Principal for Parker Junior High School to begin working with our school community on July 1, 2022.


This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified, exceptional, and experienced educational leader to provide high-quality instructional leadership at a junior high school located in the southern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. D161 serves nearly 2,300 students from the communities of Homewood, Flossmoor, Chicago Heights, Hazel Crest, and Olympia Fields.

The school is comprised of nearly 900 students and 100 staff members. The Principal leads an administrative team of two assistant principals, two deans, and a case manager. The diverse student body is provided with comprehensive and high quality programs to ensure students are well prepared for high school, college, and careers.

Our Portrait of a Graduate drives each individual at Parker to make sure our students are resilient life-long learners, creative and critical thinkers, skilled communicators and collaborators, and connected and empathetic global citizens. Students are afforded opportunities to succeed with challenging academics and numerous extracurricular and athletic opportunities. Parker is a member of the South Suburban Junior High School Association (SSJHSA) and the Illinois Elementary Sports Association (IESA).

Parker Junior High was named as a Commendable school in 2019 and 2020 by the Illinois State Board of Education, showing growth in academic achievement from the previous years. The school has implemented Capturing Kids' Hearts for social-emotional learning, working towards becoming a showcase school. Recently, Parker has added Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) to its curriculum to provide additional opportunities for students to experience success. The staff and students have received many additional academic, extracurricular, and athletic awards.

Parker Junior High and D161 are supported by a highly qualified and talented faculty and by a committed Board of Education.

Qualifications include:

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree with at least 20 semester hours of graduate credit administration and supervision
  • ​Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) w/ general administrative (K-12) or principal (K-12) endorsement
  • ​At least three (3) years of experience as a school administrator
  • ​At least three (3) years of experience as a teacher
