POSITION SUMMARY:

The CTAE Teacher (Public Safety) will be responsible for teaching the theoretical and practical concepts, strategies and techniques associated with the field of Public Safety within the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) framework.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaches students the fundamentals of public safety; including the applications and techniques commonly used in the industry
  • Instructs students using effective instructional strategies such as research projects, group discussions, cooperative learning, project and problem-based learning
  • Presents and leads students in demonstrations and experiments utilizing appropriate procedures and protocols
  • Teaches the proper use of equipment and instruments, relevant industrial safety measures, and OSHA workplace requirements
  • Examines careers in public safety and effectively guides students through industry career exploration
  • Administers and/or supports the state and local standardized testing processes and polices
  • Makes industry connections for the purpose of facilitating real world experiences for students such as classroom guest speakers, job shadows, service learning and work-based learning
  • Assists students as an advisor for CTAE student organizations
  • Coordinates conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues.
  • Performs various duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, recording grades, communicating with parents, attending parent meetings, offering tutorials for students
  • Monitors students in the classroom, during lunch and throughout the school by maintaining order and discipline in accordance with district and school policies
  • Attends state and local staff meetings including CTAE meetings, workshops and other professional development opportunities
  • Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
  • Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated


Requirements :

EDUCATION:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution in criminal justice, emergency management, fire science, health science, paramedic technology or related field required
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited institution in criminal justice, emergency management, fire science, health science, paramedic technology or related field preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Must hold or be eligible for a certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for the course(s) taught or be eligible to participate in the district's non-certification pathway
  • Current Georgia Paramedic License
  • Current licensure from the Office of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma as a Level II (Advanced EMT) Instructor
  • Current National Registry of EMT's certification as a paramedic
  • National Association of EMS Educators EMS Educator certification (NAEMSE) and/or Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Instructor certification
  • Current certification as an American Heart Association CPR Instructor

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 years of Paramedic field experience within the past 7 years
  • 2 years of experience teaching in the EMS profession preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles in the field of public safety and employability skill development
  • Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational, management, computer technology and record keeping/data management skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance

Salary Grade: T4 - T7

Salary Range: APS Teacher Salary Scale
