    NOTICE OF VACANCY
    2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR

    Job Title: District Registered Nurse
    Reports To: School Nurse and Director of Special Education
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Salary Range: $45,000- $55,000


    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    Responsible for providing physical screening to students; maintaining and operating a student medical records under the direct Supervision of the School Nurse and Director of Special Education; preparing and maintaining student records.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    1. Assists school administrators in developing school health programs.
    2. Participates in the work of health curriculum committee.
    3. Follows policies and procedures for the prevention and control of communicable disease in the schools, including exclusion of sick students; re-admits students who have had a communicable disease; assists school personnel in complying with the laws regarding immunization of students.
    4. Appraises and identifies health needs of students by planning and administering screening tests to detect visual, hearing, orthopedic, dental, and other physical deficiencies.
    5. Encourages the correction of remedial defects by working with parents, teachers, health professionals, and community agencies.
    6. Assists with maintaining up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
    7. Is familiar with the laws, regulations, and information regarding child abuse and submits appropriate reports to outside agencies via the principal. Administers or oversees the administration of medication at school within prescribed conditions and regulations.
    8. Administers first aid in accordance with established procedure; assumes authority for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness; and notifies family member or
    9. parent.
    10. Meets the needs of handicapped students by appraising the teacher of students with special health problems and serving on the eligibility committees.
    11. Is familiar with community resources.
    12. Provides health counseling for students, teachers, and parents as needed.
    13. Maintains and keeps accurate records for school use.
    14. Assists school personnel in providing a safe and healthy environment.
    15. Is available to the school health and family life programs as a resource person.
    16. Participates in staff development programs and other workshops when applicable.
    17. Checks for physical examinations on all first-entry students. Coordinates medical appointments for handicapped students. Participates in and/or organizes 504 plans and immunization.
    18. Performs related work as required.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Thorough knowledge of the common medical practices, procedures and techniques associated with a standard physical examination; thorough knowledge of the preliminary diagnosis of medical problems and the administration of medications related to treatment and first aid; ability to administer medications and apply therapeutic treatments as required; ability to follow technical oral and written instructions in exact detail; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, teachers, physicians and parents. Excellent communication skills. Ability to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Currently licensed in Illinois as a RN. Experience in pediatrics or public health
    A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

    TERMS: Length of School Year

    HOURS: Monday- Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, repetitive motions. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
