  • TITLE: Literacy Coach (2 positions available)
    REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum
    Pay Range: $60,000- $70,000 yearly
    FLSA Status: Exempt

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Master's Degree Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
    Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
    Endorsement as Reading Specialist
    Ability to communicate effectively with a broad constituency, including parents.
    Deep knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development
    Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
    Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management and collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching.
    Strong organizational skills.

    Description:
    The Reading Coach will support all staff in the implementation of the site reading plan and program. The Coach will work directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers' ability to provide instruction that builds students' sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions.

    Job Summary:
    1. Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop action plans in response to determined student needs.
    2. Provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive program. This will include modeling of best teaching practices.
    3. Work with the principals within the grantee site to create a school-wide focus on goals for reading achievement.
    4. Oversee the school's assessment procedure, training, data collection and collaborate with the principal to complete reports due.
    5. Participate fully in professional development opportunities and professional research and reading.

    Job Responsibilities:
    Literacy Coach will lead building efforts to increase literacy achievement for all student populations and facilitate the transition to and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
    · Assist teachers with the implementation of Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts via the district framework of Reader's/Writer's Workshop and Word Work
    · Assist teachers with the continued implementation of the district's Literacy Plan
    · Demonstrate exemplary literacy instruction for all teachers through the following researched-based practices: observation, coaching, model lessons, collaborative lesson planning, and small and large group professional development
    · Plan and conduct Literacy team meetings through the PLC structure
    · Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student reading and writing weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate strategies and resources based on the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts
    · Assist with disaggregating and analyzing Benchmark, ITBS, and other district assessment data (MAPS, STAR, DRA, Fast For Word, etc.) to help guide teacher's instructional decisions
    · Assist in assessing district assessments and their appropriateness to the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
    · Monitor and report the effectiveness and progress of improved reading instruction and student performance to building principal and PLC teams
    · Help make recommendations regarding instructional materials
    · Participate in various training sessions for leaders of literacy

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License and endorsement as a Reading Specialist.
