Conflict Resolution Specialist

Roles and Responsibilities
• Handle student discipline issues so that the teaching and learning process is not interrupted and all students are provided with a high quality learning environment
• Lead the implementation of restorative just practice that will provide students with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes, take ownership for their behavior, and take steps to repair any harm that they caused to the school community
• Assist in shaping the school culture
• Balance the reactionary work of addressing student misconduct and the proactive work of developing social skills so that students are prepared to succeed in school and life
• Implement a comprehensive progressive discipline system that focuses on teaching students the social skills necessary to be successful and also hold them accountable for actions via a tiered consequences appropriate for misbehavior
• Lead the teaching of tier I behavior expectations for students
• Contact and communicate with parents, guardians, probation officers, etc. to alert them of discipline incidents, conduct dean conferences, develop re-entry plan after suspensions, expulsions, etc.
• Collaborate with teachers regarding inappropriate discipline referrals and/or strategies for successfully managing behavior in the classroom
• Collaborate with security and administration to respond to issues in the building that disrupt the learning environment and/or cause safety issues
• Serve as a member of all houses and attend meetings
• Manage the activities ineligibilities list about students who are temporarily restricted from special events and activities due to behavior issues
• Assist with supervising morning entry and afternoon lunch process
• Ensure that progressive discipline is tracked, accurately documented, and shared
• Conduct parent conferences, dean conferences, and/or teacher-student conferences
• Collaborate with the houses to identify frequent fliers who need targeted support interventions to be successful in the school community; ensure that these students are routed to such interventions as needed, participate in delivery of such interventions with the ultimate goal of recidivism
• Work with house teams to provide interventions for students
• Debrief with security head and security officers daily
• Debrief with admin daily
• Develop detention process map
• Provide daily list of suspended students with pictures to security, teachers, and main office daily
• Participate in MDR conferences as necessary
• Represent school at expulsion hearings
• Complete paperwork within 24 hours verify, incident reports, etc.
• Visible at all transitions, lunch, and during class time
• Oversee student arrival and dismissal
• Develop common hallway expectations
• Develop school wide discipline plan
• Knowledge of gangs in the school and neighborhood and how this impacts student culture
• Gather and analyze all behavior data in a way that it can be shared with all staff
• Create discipline policy and procedures map
