We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter with excellent project management skills and a keen eye for talent to join the Talent Office as a Talent Recruiter. The person will report to the Recruitment & Selection Manager and play a critical role in leading our efforts to staff our Central Office and Citywide departments with world-class talent. This fast-paced role is full of opportunities to design and implement new and impactful initiatives.

The Talent Recruiter will be held accountable for the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Central Office & Citywide Recruitment
  • Oversee the recruitment process to secure high-quality and diverse talent for Central Office and Citywide roles
  • Support executive recruitment search processes logistics, sourcing, and vendor management
  • Proactively utilize varied sourcing techniques to build diverse talent pipelines of both active and passive candidates and to fill vacancies
  • Cultivate and maintain a diverse network of potential candidates, including those who are passively looking, in anticipation of talent needs
  • Communicate CPS' unique value proposition to attract, engage, and retain key talent
  • Identify and maintain partnerships with key colleges & universities, organizations, and external partners to establish and expand talent pipelines
  • Represent CPS at career fairs and events in order to compel top talent to join the district

Hiring Support
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify their specific hiring needs, role requirements, candidate profiles, and define a tailored recruitment strategy
  • Create various hiring resources such as rubrics, interview guides, and candidate trackers to guide hiring decisions
  • Create and deliver training for staff on recruiting and interviewing best practices and HR systems including the applicant tracking system (Taleo) and HRIS (PeopleSoft)
  • Serve as the main point of contact for candidates throughout the interview process
  • Own logistics including scheduling and interview preparation throughout the interview process

Data Management
  • Develop and execute methods to track recruitment metrics to guide strategy and process efficiencies
  • Analyze and report performance data and efficacy of sourcing strategies at an aggregate level
  • Manage the Taleo system data integrity and accuracy by auditing postings and performing routine data cleanups

Operational Support
  • Devise new and innovative approaches to recruitment outreach and selection processes
  • Collaborate with talent management colleagues, hiring managers, and other central office departments to establish internal talent benches and succession plan
  • Identify, recommend, and implement operational improvements to streamline recruitment processes and increase efficiency
  • Attend and assist with the logistics, coordination, and execution of recruitment events and fairs as needed
  • Assist with procurement and budget processes to facilitate recruitment goals and objectives
  • Support Talent Team on additional ad hoc projects as required


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Talent Recruiter must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university


Experience Required:
  • Direct high-volume recruitment in a fast-paced work environment
  • Sourcing candidates through multiple channels (e.g. web, social media, professional networks, etc.), LinkedIn Recruiter, boolean search strings, cold outreach and other similar direct sourcing tools

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Organization & Project Management: Keeps track of upcoming, ongoing, and prior work products. Quickly adjusts to shifting priorities and deadlines and can juggle multiple and varied projects simultaneously. Develops realistic action plans and utilizes the team effectively to achieve department goals.
  • Communication with Stakeholders: Gears communication towards the target audience and is able to influence stakeholders in the interest of meeting organizational goals and values. Communicates at a high level in both written and verbal form with an impeccable detail-orientation and a focus on customer service and relationships. Has a strong regard for confidentiality and employs sound reasoning to make quick determinations.
  • Data Analysis & Analytical Thinking: Ability to build and create data, analyze statistics, identify trends, and make balanced, objective recommendations in a proactive manner to achieve maximum results.
  • Collaboration: Initiates, builds, and manages cohesive partnerships and professional relationships both internally and externally.


Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.


  • Be Fully Vaccinated or Submit to Weekly COVID-19 Testing - Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course. Unvaccinated staff must submit to weekly testing.
