Purpose of the position:

The Technical Director (Drama Assistant Coach) will work with the Drama Coach (Artistic Director/Producer) and perform the duties of a Technical Director/Advisor for student theatrical productions at the school. They will oversee all technical aspects of productions including lighting, sound, video, rigging, scenic construction, and other disciplines.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate student leaders, and provide large group, small group and one-on-one coaching to improve performance, to ensure the productions are successful. This includes working with a diverse group of high school students, and our hope is to continually increase participation by making sure all students are treated with respect and develop a true sense of belonging through participation in the program.
  • Dependent on the production, may act as designer for one or more of these disciplines and/or Master Carpenter, or these roles may be contracted to others.
  • Collaborate with the Drama Director to select and coordinate the work of any contracted designers and other volunteers, and help ensure that district safety requirements are being followed by all.
  • Bring maintenance issues to the attention of either the school facilities staff or the Theatre Technical Manager as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with other users of the theatre to ensure production work does not interfere with other scheduled events.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre production activities and equipment
  • Ability to work closely with, supervise, and train a diverse student crew
  • Strong awareness of and commitment to safe working practices
  • Exceptional scheduling, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Flexibility in adapting to the needs of the production
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude under stressful circumstances
  • Professional experience that demonstrates proven ability to perform the job responsibilities
  • Ability to climb, walk, kneel, lift & carry up to 50lbs, and work off ladders, catwalks and other elevated areas.




Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre production activities and equipment
  • Ability to work closely with, supervise, and train a diverse student crew
  • Strong awareness of and commitment to safe working practices
  • Exceptional scheduling, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Flexibility in adapting to the needs of the production
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude under stressful circumstances
  • Professional experience that demonstrates proven ability to perform the job responsibilities
  • Ability to climb, walk, kneel, lift & carry up to 50lbs, and work off ladders, catwalks and other elevated areas.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high school students
  • ETCP certification as Rigger-Theatre and/or Entertainment Electrician, preferred
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, preferred
  • Aerial lift certification, preferred
