PT DRAMA PRODUCTION DIRECTOR (REMAINDER OF SCHOOL YEAR)

Essex Westford School District is seeking a Drama Program Director for their school productions for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year at Essex High School. Productions are anticipated to be a One Act or full play or musical experience, and also leading and supporting a student-directed and student-staged performance.

We are seeking a candidate that can foster a positive and productive learning environment for high school students as the school continues to navigate the challenges created with COVID-19.

Specifically, we are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Skills and experience to create a positive learning environment.
  • Recognize the challenges COVID-19 presents and have the ability to be flexible.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of theater, including directing, set design, stage lighting, sound, costume, acting and acting techniques.
  • Can read, artistically interpret, and communicate a coherent understanding of a play.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Enjoys collaborating with students and adults during all stages of production.
  • Willingness to work with students and adults who have a range of experience and abilities.
  • Experience in promotions and in fundraising.
Duties and responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Research, analyze, interpret, and recommend stage productions for administrative approval which are appropriate to school/community standards.
  • Communicate artistic vision for all productions.
  • Direct, guide, and supervise all after school drama productions.
  • Supervise and guide student directed children's play.
  • Assist administration in recommending for hire various positions associated with productions.
  • Be present to supervise employees, adult volunteers, and students during all aspects of production including but not limited to acting, music, dance, set design/construction, tech and costumes rehearsals.
  • Manage Drama Club budget and activities/fundraising accounts, including building budget with Fine Arts Extra-Curricular Director, purchase requests, stipends for consultants/independent contractors, activities checking account, and production rental/royalty fees.
  • Advertise and promote all productions throughout the community.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts for drama club activities, regional and state competitions.
  • Arrange for taping of all theater performances, collecting money for duplication of recording.
  • Establish rehearsal and performance schedules while reserving production space.
  • Maintain inventory and proper storage of costumes, props, sets, lights, tech equipment, and theater property pre-production and post-production.
  • Coordinate and supervise tear down after all productions.
  • Ensure all school policies, rules, and procedures are followed.
  • Work with After School Drama Club Coordinator, Director of Athletics and Activities, and school administration to assure students are meeting academic and behavioral requirements in order to participate in co-curricular activities.

The Drama Production Director is expected to be present at all rehearsals and productions. The position pays a stipend of $6917 for the rest of this school year.
