Early childhood program
ABLE members work with small groups of to help children reach math standards. Starting Fall 2021, gain hands-on experience, receive the training you need to succeed, and set yourself on the path towards a fulfilling career in early childhood education.
Required Academic and Experience Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency
- Must be able to commit to serving full-time (M-F) for 7.5 months
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien
- Be able to provide the following documentation: birth certificate/passport, driver's license or state photo ID, social security card, and high school diploma
- Must undergo both NYS OCFS and agency-based background checks, and complete a work physical
- Must complete an application and provide two references
Benefits Members Receive:
- Bi-weekly living allowance of 16 pays, bi-weekly, $529.43 (total of $8,471)
- An AmeriCorps Eli Segal Education Award of $3,172.50 (awarded after the completion of 900-hour term of service)

- Up to 60 credits towards your Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
Member Duties:
- Assist assigned early childhood classroom teachers in child supervision and daily activities, helping ensure a positive and safe learning environment
- Attend regular early childhood educator training
- Play evidence-informed math games with small groups of 3-5-year-olds to help increase comprehension and Kindergarten readiness
- Submit weekly reports
