Note: This position is fully remote and can be located anywhere in the United States. Qualified candidates from all time zones are encouraged to apply.
Position Summary
The Data Engineer III works with stakeholders to understand their work and processes, gather requirements, and translate their data needs into productive, cost-effective technology improvements for NWEA. Combines strong customer service and technical expertise in a data enablement role.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, administer, and support solutions using Snowflake, Informatica, and SSIS products
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements
  • Manage logs, domain objects, user permissions, and domain reports. Generate and upload node diagnostics. Monitor Data Integration Service jobs and applications. Domain objects include application services, nodes, grids, folders, database connections, operating system profiles, and licenses
  • Identify, recommend, and implement ETL/ELT, application integrations, event pipelines and general architecture improvements
  • Expert level knowledge supporting integrations against SQL2016, Postgres, Mongo, and Snowflake
  • Hands on experience on Cloud Computing such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, GCP.
  • Knowledge on scheduling tools like Active Batch, Autosys, etc.
  • Coordinating with the Support teams, project teams, DBA, infrastructure team and application vendor to plan/implement maintenance outages and upgrades.
  • Be able to proactively monitor the overall system (executing daily health check reports - job execution stats, volume processed, execution times, IO times taken etc.)
  • Proficient in working with Active Directory, Azure AD, and LDAP configuration and user management
  • Develop disaster recovery and failover strategies for the data integration environment
  • Design and implement platform services, frameworks, and data workflows for data scientists, ML Engineers, and operational teams
  • Develop and socialize technical solutions and frameworks that the broader data science and engineering teams can leverage to ship production-hardened data products at increasing scale and velocity
  • Drive efficiency and reliability improvements through design and automation: performance, scaling, observability, and monitoring
  • Identify limitations and required features in the Data Platform with peer teams to design and implement them
  • Experience proposing, experimenting, and iterating, whether it be a new shiny technology or an arcane, ill-conceived legacy data structure
  • Drive performance enhancements, development best practices and collaborate with other Data Engineering team members
  • Cross-train and mentor teammates
Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of ITIL and IT Service Management concepts
  • 8+ years of experience data engineering and integration development
  • 5+ years hands on experience with installation and configuration of integration platforms
  • Understanding of infrastructure/server administration required to support and trouble-shoot application issues
  • Experience administering Cloud-hosted Data Systems
  • Troubleshooting experience in working with product vendor and customers
  • Experience with integrating other systems with Informatica and Snowflake
  • Research and analytical skills to translate user's stated business need into meaningful solutions
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to apply problem solving and troubleshooting skills to resolve support issues
  • Demonstrated experience developing ideas or identifying opportunities that result in continuous improvement
  • Able to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion
  • Proven experience in interacting with senior management
  • Ability to perform the physical and intellectual requirements of the role, with or without accommodation

Education and Experience
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Eight or more years of experience in complex information system and data analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Specific experience provisioning, supporting and administering Informatica and Snowflake products
  • Preferred Certifications:

  • Informatica Data Engineering - Developer / Administrator
  • Snowflake SnowPro Core
  • Snowflake SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer
