About Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Coordinators for Professional Learning position is to carry out the mission and priorities of the both the District and Department by developing and implementing all professional learning activities to improve both academic and social-emotional learning outcomes for students with disabilities. This work is developed and carried out in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Directors of Student Services, as well as leadership in other departments. The role of the Professional Learning Coordinators includes responsibility for leading a team to develop and provide high quality professional learning experiences for all Student Services staff. Each Coordinator will work to maintain a professional learning focus on Anti-Racist IEP rubric implementation and holding high expectations for each student.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
1-2 program support teachers

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Support and coach teachers and school leadership teams in the development and implementation of high-quality instructional designs to ensure student IEP services are provided in inclusive environments.

Provide professional learning and coaching on the implementation of the Anti-Racist IEP rubric by individual special education teachers and IEP teams, with assistance from those who serve as LEA representatives.

Consult with principal and leadership team(s) in aligning school improvement plans (SIPs)/professional learning plans when the emphasis is on subgroup goals focused on students with disabilities.

Work collaboratively with the Director and Assistant Directors of Student Services, program support teachers, and leaders in other departments to support teachers and principals in their ability to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Provide discipline specific technical assistance, professional development, and/or coaching to teachers/principals/leadership teams/school-based staff around special education (both procedural and instructional) for the purpose of improving outcomes of students with disabilities.

In conjunction with department staff, principals and school-based teams, plan and at times deliver differentiated professional development and support around focused instructional practices (universal design for learning, core, specially designed instruction, and interventions) and the continuous data cycle that leads to improved student outcomes.

Support principals and instructional staff in assessing student learning and data analysis to ensure that students with disabilities are meeting both attainment and growth targets growing and problem solve supports and interventions for those who are not yet meeting goals.

In conjunction with department staff, plan and deliver differentiated professional development and support for Student services personnel.

In conjunction with department staff, plan and deliver differentiated professional development and support around culturally/linguistically relevant practices/teaching to school/central office-based staff.

Supervise/evaluate a team dedicated to providing district and department-wide professional learning opportunities/experiences.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledgeable about highly effective practices regarding educating students with disabilities.

Knowledgeable about highly effective systems change or change management strategies practices (technical and adaptive).

Knowledgeable about procedural and substantive requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as well as

Chapter 115 of Wisconsin State laws regarding students with disabilities.

Knowledgeable about the blended coaching strategies/practices to best support principals/school leaders as they engage in transforming school practices aligned to their school improvement plan.

Participation on the Anti-Racist IEP work group.

Training, experience, and expertise in the following areas of education: leadership development, working within an instructional team, standards-based assessment, and instruction, universally designed culturally relevant and differentiated instruction, and technology skills to enhance professional learning and instruction.

Demonstrated ability in the use of data to improve student learning and in the design and implementation of professional learning experiences to enhance adult use of student data to improve practices.

Evidence of deep understanding and research-based application of standards-based professional development practices aligned to the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) standards. Deep and broad knowledge of research, best practices, and issues in professional development in education locally, regionally, and nationally.

Evidence of active and current involvement in school and/or district leadership and coaching opportunities in professional development.

Evidence of excellent: oral, written, computer- and web-based communication skills; organizational and group facilitation skills; communication skills among diverse audiences, including teachers, building coaches, administrators, instructional leaders, support staff, and technical staff.

Evidence of extensive and current collaborative professional engagement and collaborative work products.

Evidence of professional development leadership leading to concrete and successful results.

Minimum Qualifications

Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher License.

Holds or willing to work toward Wisconsin DPI Director of Pupil Services (80) license, Director of Instruction (10), and/or Principal (51).

Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Minimum of five (5) years of exemplary experience in planning, developing, and facilitating adult learning in a standards-based educational system.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer terminal/PC and other office equipment.

Ability to exert very light physical effort in sedentary to light work.

Ability to sit, stand, type, or use the keyboard for extended periods of time.

Ability to give oral presentations.

Salary Range

67,645.40 - 84,538.22 Annual Salary
