JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Afterschool and Community Partnerships

REPORTS TO: Chief of Youth, Family, and Community Engagement

NATURE OF WORK
High -level management and professional position requiring a wide variety of high-level skills relating to New Haven schools, students and families. The Coordinator of Afterschool and Community Partnerships manages programs outside of school hours for children, working closely with schools and Community Partners to provide an enriching and educationally sound experience. The Coordinator of Afterschool and Community Partnerships leads the planning and coordination of programs and their activities, monitors the implementation of program policies and practices, works to keep programs on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly and supports program growth and development as necessary. The Coordinator of Afterschool and Community Partnerships collaborates with schools and partners in analyzing and developing the structure of the program based on the needs and interests of the students and their parents, manages the program staff and operations, and maintains relationships with the community partners.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Builds relationships with schools, parents, and community partners to ensure support and commitment to afterschool programs.Establishes and leads regular meetings with community partners, parents, and school representatives to discuss the district goals for afterschool programs and seek feedback on how afterschool programs can better serve children.Works with the schools and community partners' staff to analyze and develop appropriate afterschool programs and plan activities that are consistent with the mission and vision of New Haven Public Schools.Researches best practices in After School program and community partnerships and uses current research to continuously improve approaches and practices.Manages the evaluation and assessment procedures for the program through both formal and informal assessments.Analyzes the effectiveness of the program and provide progress reports to parents, schools, and community partners.Works with schools to recruit, hire and train staff.Develops and implements professional development plans for the staff to ensure the program maintains a high level of quality.Manages the operations of the afterschool program ensuring that the staff has the tools and equipment they need to do their jobs.Collaborates with appropriate district staff to monitor the afterschool environment for health and safety standards. Coordinates the financial management of the organization, including budgeting, contracts, purchasing, and accounts payable.Prepares grants, reports and presentations.Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience in youth development and afterschool programming.Knowledge of program development, coordination, and evaluation.Knowledge of fiscal management, including analysis and reporting of data to improve programs.Knowledge and experience with providing professional development and presentations.Experience supporting partnerships and engagement between schools and community organizations.Knowledge of working with youth and families.Strong cultural competence with respect for the various stakeholders and communities served by the New Haven Board of Education.Deep knowledge of commitment to social justice and equity.Deep commitment to young people and the values and principles restorative practices.Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.Ability to demonstrate strong, compassionate, inclusive leadership.Excellent planning and organizational skills with a proven ability to execute tasks efficiently.Strong communication and facilitation skills, including clear and persuasive speaking and writing.Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and execute projects independentlyComputer skills, especially MS Office: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
