PRIMARY FUNCTION: Positions assigned to this job class provide classroom and/or behind-the-wheel training to new school bus drivers or re-training of current drivers. May be required to drive a school bus on a regular route when needed.

REPORTS TO: Safety/Training Supervisor
SALARY SCHEDULE: G-11
WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level:
  • High school diploma with experience a bus driver
  • OR General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with experience a bus driver
Preferred : Extensive knowledge of Chatham County school locations and street network

Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • 5 years of experience as a school bus driver trainer providing classroom instruction to prospective school bus drivers
  • 5 years of experience as a school bus driver trainer providing behind-the-wheel training for school bus drivers
  • Proficient knowledge of bus handling and safety techniques.
  • Proficient knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations, and of local street and road systems
  • Some knowledge of basic first aid, including CPR
  • Ability to safely drive a school bus, to train others in safe efficient driving, and to assess performance
  • Ability to read, write, and complete forms and reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and school officials
  • Ability and willingness to assist physically, intellectually, and emotionally challenged students in being transported to and from school
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Word & Excel
  • Must possess a Georgia Commercial Driver's License with school bus endorsement
  • Possess Georgia State certification as school bus Instructor/Trainer

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. As driver/trainer, conducts behind-the-wheel training of new bus drivers; calls drivers via two-way radio to provide names of new students and/or address changes; receives and files mileage reports from bus drivers; performs general office duties such as answering telephones, completing and/or filing reports; and drives a bus in the absence of regular bus drivers.
  2. As required or assigned, performs duties as a school bus driver.
  3. Tracks attendees and maintains training records.
  4. Coordinates and schedules driver training dates/times.
  5. Completes daily and monthly operations reports indicating times, mileage, and routes.
  1. Completes bus incident reports as necessary.
  2. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days.
